On Call/SOS button

Does the MME have an On Call/SOS button that connects to roadside assistance? I made an assumption that there was one, but it looks like I may be wrong. Not a big deal 90% of the time, but we once had an issue with my wifes volvo in the mountain pass with no cell service. However, the on call button worked and found our location for assistance. This is my first Ford, so not sure if they even provide this type of service.

back in the day, Ford did have something sort of like this in their US vehicles, but it was tied to the paired BT phone (so your example of "no cell service" wouldn't work). You could long-press the Sync button on the wheel and get put through to a call center. My two Fusions both had it, although it went away while I owned the second one.

this is also when they discontinued "vehicle health reports", where your car would call a modem bank at Ford through your cell phone and send over diagnostic data that could then be accessed at the Ford web site. (I am 100% serious on this - when the call connected, you could briefly here the start of the modem negotiation sounds.) Of course in our cars we have much more than this with the vehicle telematics onboard today and the FordPass app/web site.

The Mach-E still has "emergency 911" support where, if enabled, the car will call 911 automatically in the event of certain accident conditions (IIRC, the airbags going off is an example). it's the "snowflake" icon. But again, tied to the paired phone.

I believe that Volvo was using the GM service - On Star. Not sure if that was cell-based or satellite-based. Largely overtaken by more modern services.

OnStar is satellite based. That’s how it can work when your cellphone has no service.

No, it's not. Vehicle mounted transceivers are higher powered and have better antennas than your cell phone. That's why it will work in areas where you are unable to make a call. The only satellite involvement is for location.

So to answer your question. In the FordPass app there's an option for roadside assistance in the top right corner. This is where you would get the roadside portion.

If your cell phone is connected to the car and it detects an accident, there's 911 assist which will automatically call 911 and your emergency contacts. But it does rely on your cell phone, your coverage and the car not being totally f'ed up to the point where it can't do that.

About coverage... The car has an optional wifi hotspot that you can pay for. The service is via AT&T. I, for example, have Verizon. Therefore, if the car and AT&T have service, but I am not in a Verizon coverage area, I can use wifi calling and the cars internet to make that call.

So yes you have those features, they are just reliant on your phone instead of natively built into the car itself.
