What's the part on the right that looks to be a shard of something hanging down from the underbody? It doesn't look right.
Can you send another pic of the entire right side of the vehicle. It's hard to see enough from your two pics.

That caught my attention too, looks like some undercarriage damage. May have been what led to the dislodging of the antenna.

There is definitely something that has broken.

The black piece (i.e. "shard" ?) is FOMOCO Part LJ8B-15K603-AA which is the right side keyless entry antenna module. Evidently that piece is not secured in the undercarriage and just popped out. I figured out how to untangle the wiring and re-insert it, but that doesn't seem to be a real fix. There is nothing broken on the undercarriage.

No relation between the two. What you see on the right of the picture is a light weight plastic-fiber cover that extends over the air intake for the battery. It is flexible and has no structural strength purpose and looks the same on both the right and left side of the car.

The wires that hold the antenna module exit the undercarriage about 12 inches behind where that cover ends.

If you open the doors and pull off the black plastic trim below the door jambs (it’s about 6” wide)/rocker panel trim, the antenna clips into the backside of that. Clearly you had the battery pack dropped for the HVBJB and they didn’t clip it back in properly.

I thank you for that piece of info as it will be useful when I go back to the dealer. I think it may have happened during manufacturing as my car is standard range and I believe the HVBJB work was just for extended range.

Typical Ford quality control then. At least it doesn't look damaged

Thanks for posting this. I now know what that wiring goes to. I noticed that really thin twisted pair wire when I opened the passenger door once. you can see it just dangling unsupported and unprotected near the front bottom of the door in the cavity before the kick plate where I guess that transmitter goes.

I was concerned when I saw it since that's a very thin wire and it would be very easy to damage the wire or for anything to get to it to chew it up. I was surprised there was no solid raceway or wire wrap and that it wasn't solidly affixed to anything.

For my tastes, it was unsettlingly exposed. But I'm also the kind of guy who neatly runs everything in conduit or wire loom and makes sure everything is secure out of harms way.....

I'm curious if anyone on here has run into an issue related to this wiring getting damaged?

Maybe your car is the spiritual ancestor of the BSA 441 Victor Special I owned and rode in the early 70s. Parts fell off Vic from the vibration of that big kick start thumper with some regularity.?
