Argument 3 is that it’s related to a recall and we get lifetime replacement.

Even though the recall doesn’t specifically replace the part, it’s the reason for the recall and I would expect it to be covered no matter your age and mileage.
Hey, that sounds great to me, but not sure Ford bean counters will see it that way.

My best case expectation is that you'll be able to get a replacement part up until the 8-yr/100K mark. After that, I don't see Ford stepping up with free replacement parts/labor, unless they are obligated to by the NHTSA. I just don't know enough about the nuances of recalls to know what Ford will be on the hook for.

That is not the way it works unfortunately. And even in the cases where a manufacture is forced to extend a warranty it is usually along the lines of 10 years total or 100,000 miles. In this case that would only add 2 years to the existing 8 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Except, that’s not how the recall was written. We are hoping that the new NHTSA investigation forces a re-write or a new recall that specifically calls out the parts (including the current revision). Until that happens, we are still going to be relying on the warranty. ?‍♂?

Honestly I suspect that if this happens, there will be a class action lawsuit. Likely successful too.

You'll drop down to 160 HP which is still enough to get around. You can still drive 80 MPH on the freeway, etc.

not that I am aware of, when it happens best to get to a dealership pretty quickly.

I believe some people have driven around for a while But it’s really a crapshoot

The amount you can drive after receiving an SVS varies. It depends on a variety of factors that influence how quickly the contactors will go from the damaged but still somewhat functional state to the no longer functional state. Some people have gone hundreds of miles. Others not so far. Mine barfed and became a SSN while waiting in line for the dealer’s service writer to check me in, about 2-1/2 days and 15 miles after the event happened. ?‍♂?

I know it’s not written that way now.

But if the failures continue, it can change.

My last car I replaced the electric power steering out of warranty.

I got reimbursed when the recall was updated.

Just saying there’s a chance.

I won’t have this car past 8 yrs so it won’t matter to me though.

Technically that’s not a failure though right?

That’s the recall software warning and preventing an assumed inevitable failure.

Based on my unscientific observations of a significant number of HVJB “failures” post recall, I’m convinced that they weren’t all necessarily going to weld shut or open.
