Hi All!

I wanted to follow up on something that I posted about price protection. I have since deleted these since I have found out the information is wrong.

I had detailed a process (from memory) that I recalled from my dealer days. This process has changed.

For retail orders placed BEFORE a price increase. Price protection is AUTOMATIC and there is nothing the dealer needs to do to get it.

For those of us who ordered before the December price increase, the dealer will automatically receive a credit in the amount of the increase as long as the unit is reported sold in the name of the person who ordered it.

In my case the increase is $2000. The MSRP went from $57140 to $59140. When the dealer reports my unit sold (to me) they will receive a $2000 credit from Ford within 45 days.

My dealer confirmed this with the Vehicle Order Processing Center (VOPC in Ford acronyms). They also confirmed with Ford that they would take $2000 off whatever applicable plan price is shown on the vehicle invoice.

What should be stressed is that Ford will pay the dealer the adjustment as long as the vehicle is reported in your name. It is not dependent on the adjustment being passed to you, so the dealer CAN use that as a defacto form of ADM.

If your dealer would like to confirm that they will receive the credit, have then contact the VOPC.

My dealer came back with point #1 in fords terms and conditions

I ordered back when MSRP was $56,400. Now it's showing as $58,900. I'm not holding my breath but do you have any additional documentation aside from me telling my dealer to check their VOPC?
Ordered is different than reservation. If you "ordered" at a price you should be good.

That's hilarious that they're quoting you 2-year old terms on a process that no longer even applies to the Mach-E. The actual order terms are here: https://www.ford.com/help/terms-conditions/#order

It's very clear that on an order you're agreeing to a specific price. That said, there is an out for them that "The Dealer’s final selling price may be subject to change." But it's obvious that they're screwing you in such a case since Ford has a program to make them whole. It's also "the dealer"...not Ford...in case they try to BS you otherwise and shift blame where it doesn't belong.

I do not. The salesperson I am working with is a friend of mine so we went through this process together. He is the one who confirmed to me that the price protection is automatic.

Unfortunately, nothing forces the dealer to pass this on to you.

Thanks for this information. I'm having some issues with my dealer. I ordered my Premium RWD on July 31 online myself and added/upgraded to the Ice White appearance package after my order was converted to a '22, order confirmed on 10/19/21. Now the window sticker says $2,000 more than the price on 10/19. The person I was talking to when I put in the order was not the guy I've been dealing with (in internet sales). When I wanted to make my change in October, I'd been trying for weeks and couldn't get the internet sales guy to call me back (someone else ended up handling the change for me after I contacted the dealership GM). The only time I get get the internet sales guy is when I actually go into the dealer. A week ago I went in, he told me my cost would be the (updated) sticker price. When I told him it was my understanding Ford would credit the additional $2k, he said he would "write to his rep" and email me back. Of course, I haven't heard back and he hasn't responded to my emails. When I called Ford Customer Service, they told me the dealer can sell the car to me for anything they want.

Long story short, my question is if there is an official way I can confirm that the dealer will get this $2,000 back?

I'm thinking, at this point, of either making a complaint with Ford and/or writing to the GM.

Have the dealer contact the VOPC (Vehicle order processing center) they can confirm it. The dealer can also search "Price Protection" in the "Dealers Ask Ford" section with their dealer extranet (FMCDealer).

FYI the link to Dealers Ask Ford is at the very bottom of the FMCDealer pages if someone can't find it.

Sales Price Protection
Summary: Provides details of errors with automatic payment after the 45 day period.

Overview
Price protection guarantees the original price level, as long as it is reported sold to the original customer. Price protection covers the base price of the unit and will automatically be paid approximately 45 days after the unit is reported sold to the same customer for whom the unit was ordered.

Mismatched Names and Non-Payment
In the event that the price protection program does not automatically pay the dealership after the 45-day period, the Vehicle Order Processing Center can research the concern. Non-payment may be due to several reasons, including:
  • Vehicle ordered in the business name but sold to the business owner (or vice versa)
  • Vehicle ordered in wife’s name but reported sold in the husband’s name (or vice versa)
When a name mismatch occurs, please contact the Vehicle Order Processing Center to review. Be prepared to provide proper documentation for the order to prove the relationship between the name and sold-to-name. Acceptable documents can include:
  • Business card
  • Business license
  • Tax information / license
  • Copies of the sold-to-name driver’s license MUST reflect the same address as the ordering name. It must prove that both ordering name and sold- to-name reside in the same household.

Check out this video by a dealer internet sales manager about price protection and incentives:

Two very important points here:
  1. The dealer must give you price protection since they will automatically get that amount back from Ford as a refund off their invoice price. Refusal to give the full amount may be considered fraud since you are entitled to it as the original order holder.
  2. You can get the incentives that were available at the time of your order that have since expired, such as 0.9% APR.

I don't know why Ford made this so difficult? If we have price protection, don't silently increase the price on the order page to create uncertainty and abuse. Just keep it at the protected price. I was fortunate to notice the sneaky price change on mine so was able to address it with the dealer right away.
