Problem with charging

Even though I set the parameters to charge after midnight to save money, if I plug it in before then, it will start charging. Anyone else having this issue?

With the number of times this question comes up, Ford needs to do a better job conveying this info when people are setting up charge time. (I am assuming the info isn’t there since I don’t use that feature)

This just happened to me Friday. I was plugged in to 240V and had no departure times set.

Wish we could force it to ONLY charge in a set time window. Many of us have charging boxes connected to load balancing services, which means that the charge rate can vary. This confuses the car and it most of the time ignores the charge time and wastes my and other people’s money by charging at the worst times. Even better, make a second option within charge time: Respect charge time / prioritize charge level. First one does what charge time should do, second one would let car do whatever it needs to try to get to set charge limit.

The only ways to do that for sure are as follows:

1) Use a charger that is intelligent, and set the same hours on it. If it's off, the car cannot charge.
2) Lower the charge limit.
3) Plug in only during the proper hours.

What voltage and amperage is your charger?

If the car doesn’t think it can finish charging within the time window then it will start charging immediately when you plug in.
I'm using a Tesla Supercharger that I used to have with a Tesla.

Here is my experience so far after 5 weeks of ownership. The Emporia charging unit that Ford included with my Mach E purchase allows me to set it so it only turns on during the 7pm to 2pm (next day ) window when our utility company gives us a 5 cent per price reduction. If I plug in our Mach E outside of that window then it initially looks like it will start charging but it doesn’t because the charger unit won’t supply power even though it’s on. As soon as the time window is reached the power is available and the Mach E starts to charge. So it is really my Emporia unit controlling unit making sure I only use electricity at the lower rate.

I'm using a Tesla Supercharger that I used to have with a Tesla.
That doesn’t give any useful information at all.

First of all, Tesla Supercharger only refers to the public DC fast charging stations.

At home, you can either have a Tesla Wall Connector or a Tesla Mobile Connector.

Tesla Wall Connectors can be set to any amperage up to 48 amps for gen 2 and 3, or up to 80 amps for gen 1.

Tesla Mobile Connector can be 240V at anywhere from 16-32 amps, or 120V at 12-16 amps depending on what plug you’re using.

So what voltage and amperage is your setup?

HI , I had a similar problem with My 2023 Mustang MACH E extended range RWD. The problem started in May this year and was identical to yours , i.e. the car would start charging and ignore the preferred charging times. The problem got worse during the next 5 months to the point that the car would not complete a home charging session and a visit to the Ford dealer finally fixed the problem several weeks ago. The fix was a two day stay with the local service centre where the car software was updated by the Ford engineering software team as the local dealer does not have the expertise for this type of update. I was advised by the local dealer that they had to update several software modules and that could only be done at the dealer as they were too large for over the wire updating. Hopefully your local serviice centre will follow the same process that mine did and you will soon be charging successfully on preferred charging times.

I have enjoyed nearly three years of trouble free driving on my MME which has been excellent apart from that problem.

Departure time is irrelevant. What matters is whether the car thinks it can reach your target charge by the end of the charge window. If the answer is no, it starts charging immediately, even if it’s for only a few minutes, to give it tte energy needed to reach the target charge by tte end of the window.

Well, my charge window is 9 hours and I was adding less than 10% so that's not a reason to start immediately. The worst part is that after I stopped it via the app, it didn't start charging during my charge window.
