I’m not up to speed at all on the ceramic coatings…are they superior substitutes for “old school” wax products? I have tended to use Mothers or Meguiar’s washes and waxes but have also used Chemical Guys wash products. Thanks

Superior is subjective. Ceramics are long lasting protection, but there is always a trade off. They don't have the same shine or slickness that a carnuaba wax does. But the wax lasts only a few weeks.

did you apply yourself? Do you have to use a buffer or can it be done by hand?

I did it myself. They have tutorial on their site. Easy to apply, a little time consuming. The only thing to pay special attention to is not leaving too much behind on the surface.

Even though this video is about 5 years old now, I thought it was extremely informative and gave a balanced take on ceramic coatings from a Youtuber I trust. I recommend this video for anyone who wants to learn more about ceramic coating basics.

If you have never applied a ceramic coating before and want to try your first coating, I recommend you consider Gyeon Cancoat Evo. IMO, this is one of the easiest to apply ceramic coatings on the market. You just wipe it on a 2' x 2' section of the car and then immediately buff it off. No need to wait for it to flash or "rainbow".

In my opinion, the stuff he is testing are useless. You have to keep applying after every wash.

They say 5 years, but I think 2-3 years is about it.

This weekend performed the first wash since the ceramic coating was applied. I used CarPro Reset. I was very surprised at how much more hydrophobic the ceramic coating is than the premium wax was. Wow!
