Public charger drops voltage drastically. Educate me, please

While charging at a charger that charges but doesn't charge money for it, I saw this drop on my charge point screen. Why?

Did I reach 80%, and thus it drops to a slower charge? I have the target set to 95%.

I think you exceeded the max number of allowed “c” word usage in a sentence by a long shot ?.

There could be many reasons why. We can speculate, but that won’t be helpful.

Does the charging station have two cords attached to it? If so, it is probably on a shared circuit. If only one EV is plugged in, it gets the full 6 kW. If a second EV plugs in, each car gets 3 kW. As soon as the second car disconnects, your car gets the full 6 kW.

It has 2 cords yes, and 2 of us were there charging from the beginning. But, another car could have come in at that time of the drop and started fresh.

Noted.

P. S.. Is there a way to have the ac always come on in recirculate mode?

I don’t want to be “that guy,” but I’m going to do it anyway. Your voltage didn’t drop. The amperage dropped. The kilowatts dropped from around 6 to around 3. That probably means you were at a 30 to 32 amp EVSE at 208 to 240 volts, and it was supplying full amperage… then it dropped to half. As @devmach-e said, you were probably sharing with another car at that point.

I believe David has your answer here. A second person plugged in. A long time ago I tried using free, publicly located, time limited level 2 stations on a couple of occasions. The experience was so slow and unsatisfying that I don’t even give them a thought anymore.

You are correct, the amperage dropped, and I meant to say that.

for the record, I have been at this same charger, with another car charging alongside mine, and the amperage never dropped and stayed up there at 6kw.
