I currently drive a 2010 Taurus, love it. we have been thinking about buying a Mach E. We went to the nearest dealer to check one out. They had none inside. There were two parked out front, blocked in by other for sale cars. I said it was OK as only wanted to sit in it and see if we (large) people would fit. We did. The wife loved it.

It was 90 degrees at 4 pm and the car had been sitting in the sun all day. We sat it in for 10 minutes and could not get a whiff of cold air out of it. The salesperson was beside herself. She said on the 2023's and earlier, she just turned them on, and they blew cold air. We went to another one also blocked in and the same thing - 10 minutes of hot air in our face.

Question: On a hot, 90 degree day do you have to be moving to get cold air? What were we doing wrong? If you do have to be moving to get it started, what happens when I rush into a store and the wifey (less mobility) sits out in the car waiting?

Also, does the self-dimming rear view mirror actually work? On our Taurus, half the time it does not dim when someone is directly behind us. Can it be replaced with a manual adjusting rear view mirror?

Were the vents open? The first time I turned on my AC I had the same reaction, but discovered the vents were. not open. AC is excellent. I have a 2021 Premium ext battery.

So sad that the sales staff didn't know their product well enough.
It's actually one of the wonderful aspects of an EV!

Electric HVAC that doesn't rely on a internal combustion engine crankshaft to be turning just to spin the air conditioner compressor.

You can even turn on the HVAC before you are going to leave in the car so that it's comfortable when you enter the vehicle.

The very thing that has you hesitant to consider the Mach-E is ironically one of its strong suits.

If you do purchase one in the future, just know that you can turn on climate control from your smartphone. It will look like this :

The problem with that is that I believe the climate is set to however you last had it, so if you set it to heat before you left the car, and it’s now 100 degrees outside, you are heating up the cabin.

If it is now 100F, I bet you didn't have the heater on last time you were in the car? ?

I live in tropical coastal area. So admittedly, I have it on 68F Air Conditioning Heaven almost 365 days a year.

I'm also an optimist and believe that there's a good possibility that the Mach-E specifically could be getting further options in FordPass. So maybe cool/Heat choice will be available?

My guess they had the blower fan running but the a/c wasn’t actually turned on.

Mine blows cold within a few seconds even if it’s 100+ degrees inside the car.

Auto dim mirror works fine.

Agreed, the sales person is lack luster. She needed to make sure 1st the AC button was on (amber light) and then go to the HVAC screen and make sure the Vents are "open". The AC works well, just not your sales associatie.

With the App, you can also turn the AC on a few minutes before you get into your car and it will be nice and cool........

I agree. Recently I was leaving work and I thought the AC was on because the blower was on. Took me a few minutes to realize the AC indicator wasn’t lit.

I'll answer this one . IMO it works too well. It's way too dark for my liking .I wish we had a way to turn it off or at least adjust the amount of the dimming . If it was the only thing on that particular fuse id pull it .

They ship from the factory with the vents closed, so unless somebody opened them, that was probably the problem.

That's a setting in the car. You can tell it to auto-adjust based on ambient temp when you remote start or tell it to use the car's last temp setting.

Thanks for all that replied. The vents were physically open as it was blowing hot air into the cabin. Is there a setting on the screen to turn on the vents? Also, the woman seemed knowledgeable as she has driven and sold several Mach E's before. She suggested they made a change for 2024 in the buttons/switches perhaps. She was going to take it for a spin when they reset the line of bumper-to-bumper cars in front of the dealership and figure it out. Mach1E may have been right in that the blower was on but not the A/C.

Also, I noticed on the Ford website that the Select model was not available until October. Are they prioritizing the more expensive models currently? We are retired and don't do road trips anymore. The farthest we go is 100-mile round trip when we visit the "big" city. 250-mile range with the LFP battery would be plenty.

We live in Phoenix. A/C is excellent in our '22 GTPE. In fact, when it is really hot out, we prefer the Mach-E over our other car ('24 Subaru Outback) because the Mach-E's a/c is much better.

The panel vents on the dash need to be open specifically. Just because you feel air blowing somewhere doesn’t mean you don’t still have some vents closed.

Set the temperature to 70° and touch the AUTO button on the screen, which will automatically turn on A/C and adjust vent settings. Always press AUTO to reset the settings to default for best results.
