Just for reference, I'll relate my "online" buying experience.
First step was $500 on my credit card for a reservation (not an order) the night of the reveal. $500 charge was to Ford (IIRC).
When ordering was available, I converted my reservation to an order - the $500 was refunded and was replaced with a $1000 CC charge to my dealer.
I didn't realize until about a month later that my order wasn't an order until the dealer submitted it to Ford. I was required to visit the dealership in person to watch the salesman click the order button.
At time of delivery, I think they let me put another $2K on a card.
Overall, the process wasn't terrible, but like others have stated, it's not like buying on Amazon.
