Yesterday, while DC charging the mechanism that locks the charger connector quit working and I was unable to unplug at a station. After several presses of the unlock button and wiggling the DC plug, the connector finally worked.

This happened again approximately 2 hours later, except this time I had to follow the manual release procedure under the hood.

Since then, the charge port has been working fine with no issues. My question is... Is there some thing that needs lubricating or cleaning to prevent this from happening again?

For reference, I had the on-board charger replaced under warantee approximately 18 months / 40k miles ago for a different issue, so I was not expecting issues with this one so soon.

Did you check to see if the car doors were unlocked? There’s an interlock now to lock the charge port when the doors are locked. It’s supposed to unlock with a fob or PAAK nearby, but, ya know, .. Unlocking the doors also unlocks the charge port.

I haven't heard if that. Was that a software change? I have a '21.

I dont think that was the case in my situation but I'll try that today to see.

It was a fairly recent change. @Mach-Lee explained it in a thread somewhere in here.

there are two basic steps to try unlock DC port
1. unlock doors
2. click stop charging on tablet screen (sometimes it releases DC cable superior than unlock button at port)

one more charging cables related topic: sometimes Tesla cable stuck in adapter - push tesla cable forward and then pull back for release.

Check for debris in the port. There have been cases where the plastic caps on the pins have come loose and sit in the bottom of the charge port, preventing the gun from being fully inserted. If conditions are right, it could be the lock pin engaged, but there is pressure on the pin because of the plastic cap or other debris in the port.

Lifting upward and pushing toward the car while making sure the gun is square to the port, may release the pressure.
