To be fair to the OP, I’ve owned about 20 Fords in my lifetime. Before the MME, my latest were a 13 Explorer and a 17 F150. They all had hardware buttons for recirc. No auto turn off.

Also to note, last summer, I think after a 2.8.x update, my recirc stayed on. Now, after 3.x, it shuts itself off again.
Rick is right, Ford's recirc strategy (since the 90's) has always included an automatic "purge" cycle that opens up the fresh air every so often. Otherwise people would eventually pass out in the cabin from buildup of carbon dioxide (it would act as a sealed room). However on ICE vehicles it used to be a much longer period, maybe up to 30 minutes before the vent opens for several minutes.

Since the Police Explorer carbon monoxide recalls in 2017, Ford has been much more proactive about maintaining fresh air in the cabin, which means automatically disabling recirc more often and for longer. In the case of the Mach-E, the recirc is disabled to prevent window fogging, which uses more energy to remove.

I confirmed this works. With dash vents turned on, recirculate stayed on for my entire 2 hour drive. To keep the glass from fogging I turned on A/C. When I turned off A/C, the glass immediately started fogging. It was 36-42 F outside during my drive and I got the same efficiency as I get in the summer. (The inside car temp was set to 67, fan on low, and I was comfortable.)

Good strategy in that temp range. I'll just add that the A/C compressor works down to 32ºF outside, below 32ºF this strategy won't work.

I don't know what's going on, but the recycled air setting for climate control continues to turn itself off. It will be off when I turn the car on and it will turn itself off multiple times while driving. I don't understand why some settings don't stay what you set them to. Anyone else having this issue?
Mine didn't start this until the cold climate update -- won't let me turn off recirc and doesn't show it being on. Really pissing me off. Hope to find something in forscan to adjust it.

It is ,as stated, an excellent feature. Especially when driving.

Honestly, I really like this feature.

In other cars I'm always hesitant to turn on air recycling, because I know I'll probably forget to turn it off again haha. Like, I'm behind a stinky diesel on the highway and turn it on - and then much, much later I notice I've been breathing in my recycled farts for two hours. :D

You would really notice your farts if you were canine. Mine smell sooooo good! ??

Thanks for this link. I was having trouble finding charcoal cabin air filters for the MME in stock anywhere! I just ordered some.
I'm using the same filter and I love it!

I'm actually genuinely upset with you guys. ?? They changed this in one of the last updates, right?! I wouldn't be surprised if someone from Ford saw this thread and turned it into a thing.

So now it's kind of the other extreme - once you active air recycling it NEVER automatically resets, even when you completely shut down the car. At least that's what I've been noticing.

I absolutely hate this haha. And it makes me hesitant every time to actually use it. I genuinely avoid it now. Because I know with certainty that once I turn it on, I will forget to turn it off again. ? Sure you can blame that on me, but I really liked the way it used to be!

Is there a good reason to have recycling air always on? It seems like that's what OP is going for? When I turn it on in my Mach-E, over time it definitely gets pretty stuffy and humid inside the car. (But yes, at the same time I will still forget to turn it back off.)

Yeah, the setting sticks now. However it will still periodically open for fresh air.

I like that the setting sticks like my other cars, when we have a wildfire smoke plume it usually lasts for many days and recirc needs to stay on. Some people also live in areas with lots of stinky non-emissions complaint vehicles and want to leave it on all the time.

A quick way to make sure it's off is to just hit the AUTO button, that will reset all the settings including recirc.

I think it works perfectly now. When I engage the AC, it goes to recirc. When I turn off AC, it goes to fresh air.
