Compared to other EVs and true hybrids, Ford's regenerative energy is nothing. Unsure why not or where it goes, but would not worry about any HVBJB ill effects from regen.
The HVBJB will destruct, not knowing when is the miserable torture Ford is imposing. Wish there was a legitimate recall which would enable us to have it fixed w/o having to wait for it to fail.
Junk is junk.
The beat goes on.

I know the real reason Ford isn’t just replacing it for all cars as part of a recall is because some accountant with a spreadsheet ran the numbers and decided it’s not worth the costs given the number of affected cars. However this, plus the gray bars plus the limiter really puts a damper on my decision to go with the GT. The irony is that I actually love the car. I miss it but I’m starting to wonder if I made the right decision getting it in the first place.

my grabber blue GT still gets a lot of attention and questions from people. Does Ford really want me and others like me to say “it’s great but…”. Because I guarantee that person will forget about the “it’s great” and remember everything I said after “…but…”.

Yep, I predict Ford is gambling/hoping that the "recall" software patch will reduce the number of scary breakdown stories that show up in the press, since fewer sudden dramatic failures strand people, and will then permit the natural failure rate of HVBJBs (e.g. 1 per day) to be the process that prioritizes who gets a new HVBJB part first, as well as the process that slowly drives more and more Service Centers to get the skills and equipment necessary to work on the battery in EVs.

GM tried to do a similar thing with software patches (2 or 3) on the Chevy Bolt EV but the PR forced their hand eventually. The official recall that GM ultimately had to implement with the Bolt, which is about 1 year into a 4 year ETA(?) until complete, where they had to replace the potentially faulty battery in all 100k? Bolts, follows an officially prescribed timeline for doing the same type of thing, building enough new batteries making associated parts available, scheduling which cars first, equipping and training Service Center staff to drop and replace batteries etc.

IMO: Ford should commit, at the very least, to warranty the HVBJB part for all affected cars to be replaced if it EVER fails, beyond the 100k miles limited warranty for the battery.

As someone who just inadvertently joined the HVBJB club two days ago. It’s hurts to know some of you are out there trying to make it happen.

As an aside, are there any reports of the replacement breaking?
Why would it “hurt”?? The more failures the better it is for all of us. Either they will replace all of them or give us an extended warranty on the battery pack . Personally I don’t want to go out of pocket for a know issue.

It could hurt since the part is on back order.

Yep. My dealer is telling my they have no idea when I will get my car back. It could be weeks or months. I had to go out and rent a crappy car because they don’t have loaners.

Oh wells, it’s still better in the long run.
Not many people will be happy to be a “sacrificial pawn” for the greater good.

I believe I have had the big event. This forum alerted me to the issues long ago and the grand thread from DevSecOps has been reviewed and appreciated. Premium AWD - October 2021 build date.

DCFC only on occasion, including the day of Service Vehicle Soon failure. All patches and updates had been applied.

I drove from Redding to Klamath Falls (150 mi) and back Sunday 20 August to ferry a passenger. I5 to Weed then 2 lane Hwy with passing lanes on long upgrades. ChargePoint slow DC charge (32 kW/hr) to go from 34 to 75% over 78 min while I had lunch.

The fault happened on the return - Descending a 5 mi 6% grade into Weed I was behind a few trucks - regenerating in adaptive cruise at 55-60 MPH for miles (no-passing lines - passing lane going UP the other way). When I went to pass the SVS warning and wrench and exclamation came on - 1:31 PM - I sort of noticed a change in power but had reached 88 MPH as I passed and was back into regen mode. I noticed the decreased power only a few times descending into Redding (3.7 mi/kW on the 150 mi return).

I post here in thin year old thread because I believe that the long regeneration followed by the WOT acceleration caused the fault. I wasn't stranded, but have dropped the car off to have this addressed. Parts dept says the JB is available by overnight. Final diagnosis is still pending a tech - today hopefully. I drilled and capped access for the LV + and - posts a few month ago, I have a hitch receiver for a bike rack - I was ready for this to happen. I'm glad this didn't disable the car and that my family wasn't with me.

Parts dept says $700 for the part with a $150 Core charge - they are rebuilding these - makes sense if only the contactors are bad.

Bummer. Mine gave me the SVS on Friday after slow and go, aggressive (3/4 throttle) cloverleaf on-ramp, then setting ACC to 72. The limp home light came on right after I set the speed. ??

Glad your dealer told you the part is available. Mine called me on Monday afternoon to tell me they diagnosed my car and was ordering parts. No ETA for mine, but I assume since we are both in NorCal that the same distribution warehouse would be involved, so I am hopeful they will schedule service soon. ??
