Curious, can I remote start the MME from another country, just to warm up the battery a bit?

Yes, if you are a) plugged in, and b) set a departure time in the FordPass app.

Remote start via the app requires plugging in?

I can start mine remotely when unplugged. I've been using it quite often in the cold weather. (UK though) Just press start icon on FordPass. Takes up to 30 seconds to respond depending on WIFI speed and mobile data speed.

Yeah, so have I. Haven't ever had to plug in or set departure times. I wonder if @mach-leewas referring to pre conditioning

Remote starting conditions the cabin , all it does for your battery is drain it a bit. If you want to warm the battery, you need to precondition.

As stated remote start is cabin condition only. It will also auto turn off after a short period of time (5 minutes?)

You also cannot actually drive the car from remote start.

Yes - being plugged in is required for preconditioning.

15 minutes, can be extended to 30.

There is a limit of 3 starts as I recall, then you have to physically start it.

Yes you can remote start from anywhere in the world that you have a cell connection. Though it isn’t useful for anything but warming your cabin. I use it when I’m coming off the ice from ice fishing so I have a warming space when I get to shore. But that’s only from a mile or so out. I also use it when disembarking a plane so my car is warm by the time I get to the parking garage. I wouldn’t use it from Amsterdam because that’s just wasting battery I may need when I get back to NY.

You said warm up the battery, which requires a departure time. Remote start doesn't warm up the battery at all.
