I wanted to post about my experience with Tuxmat brand floormats in my MME. Not a paid endorsement, I paid full price for the front and rear set.
I've had them for a year and they've protected the floors that still look like new underneath.
I had to mess with my center console today so I took them out of the rear to get better access to the back of the console. I saw my clean floor underneath so I thought I'd mention my positive experience.
I think a lot of floor mats will keep your car floor looking new. But what I like is the "bucket" design of these that go up the sides of the footwell. This allows them to hold a spilled coke or cup of coffee without it going further and damaging the carpet.
The rear seat tuxmat is full left to right and also goes all the way up to the seats and so it protects the carpet going up the footwell from heel damage.
The mats themselves are cushioned a bit so if they're clean it's pretty comfortable to have your bare feet on them. Since I'm the driver it's only been once as a passenger but I've changed shoes in here while parked multiple times comfortably lol.
Speaking of cleaning, most weeks I just clean with a wet towel after vacuuming. But to get them looking new, they clean up great with a kitchen sponge and some dish soap. The driver's side mat could use that type of cleaning currently.
And separately, a quick clean from just popping out the driver's mat and shaking it out when it gets to much dirt in there during the week.
One negative I'll mention is that to secure the left and right sides of your mat to the front footwells (driver or passenger), you have to glue velcro pieces to your footwell wall and then the opposite velcro piece is fastened on the Tuxmat.
Our MME footwell walls are patterned plastic that doesn't hold these glued pieces too well. And when the glue dries up, these will come off after a while. Especially when you take your driver' side mat out often.
I tried Gorilla glue to re-secure them but it doesn't hold. And I've seen gorilla glue fail in multiple scenarios with other projects so they are off my list anyway.
I would prefer some kind of metal wire built into the mat edge that you can bend into shape which would possibly hold the shape. I may play with that myself and maybe duct tape thick bendable wire on the hidden back side?
Even without the velcro securing it, the sides stay pretty well in the shape and don't fold in on itself. You can see in the picture of the driver's side it curves in a bit.
Thanks for reading,
Mark
