I even ‘do it wrong’ by 1 bucket washing, car dries with soap water on it, then 1 bucket rinse and wet shammie to dry the panel. If there is scratches in my paint Incant see them (Im also 50 and have a white car)
But I did ceramic coating 2 years ago, if anything the ceramic gets the scratches.
I use the red sponge. 1 thing I don’t really like about McKees is it doesn’t remove ‘moonshit’. The little bug poop lines. Usually have to use my fingernail for that.
Rinse-less only means less rinsing/water. If it’s not wiped dry the soap leaves a film. I pretty much only have dust as it never rains here so I havnt had to deal with mud and slush.

The way I understand it from watching a shitload of AMMONYC videos is that it's mostly about using a "lubricant" to remove the dirt/debris. So, the hoseless/rinseless washes just need something to help release that dirt/debris as you wipe it away. I've never used one though.

Here's Larry's product: https://ammonyc.com/products/ammo-frothe-hoseless-lift

With the rinseless stuff, you can wipe up a panel, the sponge will be full of dirt but the panel appear clean, about 15 ~30 seconds later you'll notice the water on the panel is collecting dirt as it continues to release stuck dirt from the panel. Every time I go to dry the car even after 1 bucket wash, 1 bucket rinse (with a lot less rinseless wash in it) and shammie dry (with like 2 drops in 4 gallons of water) the shammie ends up with dirt as well. Sunday I spent 1/2 the day washing 3 of my cars. I was spent by the end of the 4.5 hours. This stuff really helps if youyou have no way of drying a car faster than the water will dry on the car. It's usually 100+ when I'm done and in direct sun, without being able to finish wipe off the cars they'd be a water spot mess.

I use ONR (Optimum No Rinse) brand for a rinseless wash every once in a blue moon. It’s “OK” for light to maybe almost moderate amounts of dirt. Mostly I use it for diluting into an all purpose cleaner though.

Both no rinse and waterless washes rely on a lubricant to avoid any scratches. The lubricant is part of the product. You’re also using rather light pressure with a wash mitt or microfiber soaked in the diluted no rinse then wiping dry with a towel. If you can’t get it with the light pressure, you’ll either need to pretreat or do a real car wash.

I do a waterless washes far more than rinseless tbh. It’s good for light dirt only. I’ll pretreat any bugs with Turtle Wax bug and tar or similar per the instructions, or let the waterless product sit longer after spraying it on. Then it’s a minimal pressure wipe in one direction only with a saturated microfiber towel followed by a quick drying with a separate towel. One section at a time. The product I use is Griot’s Spray-On Car Wash. it uses a liquid wax for its lubricant which I suspect they all do. Works quite nicely for light dirt only. Anything beyond that needs to move to a car wash. There are zero water restrictions where I live so rinseless isn’t a legal issue.

My strategy has been to do a thorough cleaning (some would use a claybar for this), then apply a quality wax. The turtle wax ceramic hybrid in most recent years, and based on where you live could be once or twice a year application. Having a healthy wax coat makes cleaning very easy, and mitigates any potential harm dirt/particles embedding themselves into the clear coat.

As long as I stay on schedule with the wax cycle, I never need to worry about how or how often I'm cleaning the car. [how often could necessitate more frequent wax application, as the washing process does eat away at the wax/hybrid ceramic layer]

I am a huge fan of rinseless washes. I have rinseless washed my wife's 2022 GTPE every week for the past 3 years and you will not find a single scratch on it. My current favorite rinseless wash is Armour Detail Supply Hero - cleans well, lots of slickness, and smells great.

The key to scratch-free rinseless washing is to pretreat the dirtiest areas by first spraying on the rinseless wash solution on the panel, let it dwell for 30-60 seconds and then clean off the panel with rinseless wash.

Rinseless washing saves a ton of time and water. I can wash her car with no more than 4-5 gallons of water total.
