Yesterday as I was pulling off of the freeway, a Rivian RT1 passed me. The photo sucks because I had a very small window of opportunity and there was a CHP cruiser behind me.

That would be the vehicle I would be waiting for if my budget wasn't capped at 70k

When I first heard of it, I was very interested. Honestly, were I in a pickup purchasing space, the F150 Lightning would be right at the top of the list. Go figure, I am a Pontiac guy, I used to race Toyotas, but I'm most interested in Fords now. No dog in the fight, so I am looking at what is objective best for me (not necessarily for anyone else).

I would worry about longterm viability of a startup. That's an awfully expensive purchase with only a moderate possibility of being able to repair it in the future.

With Ford and Amazon as the major investors, I think Rivian will stick around or be bought out. Amazon is already using their electric delivery vans in several cities.

My concern with Rivian is where to get it worked on. If Ford will be the service center, this could be a winner. If it is a few scattered Rivian repair centers, forget it.

I still see the Rivian R1-T and the F-150 Lightning as the two top contenders to replace my Tacoma.

A buddy thinks that Rivian will get the Ford oval with a different body.

Amazon has a 100 000 van order and the first ones have been delivered.

It sounds like they’re trying to make service easy.

I had a preorder for the R1S. I canceled it, when I learned they weren’t going to have a lease program. I’m still a fan of R.J. Scaringe and the work he‘s doing.
