Has anyone used Ford’s Roadside Assistance for a flat tire or a charge? If so, what did they do? AAA?

Ford Roadside, which is good for 5 years / 60,000 (free) and for a fee beyond that, will contact a tow vehicle (no set company, could be independent).

What they'll do is clearly stated here:

https://www.ford.com/support/category/service-maintenance/roadside-assistance/

Flat - with no spare - they'll tow you to the nearest Ford dealership.
Need a charge - nearest public charger, or home, or Ford dealer with a charger if within 50 miles of any of those.

I discovered this service by accident playing around in FordPass. Can't believe the salesman didn't mention it! I, too, have been wondering if anybody has had positive or negative experiences with this service. I considered canceling the roadside assistance on my auto insurance, but when I looked at the bill breakdown, it's pretty cheap. Might be worth having both?? Maybe one or the other is more responsive in certain areas or at certain times of day?

We had to have our Mach-e towed from boonville, Mo. to Sedalia, Mo. through no fault of the car, rather poorly done warranty work. I texted roadside assist in the app, they replied immediately, and in 20 minutes the car was being loaded on a flatbed. Ford said the car should be towed to the dealer in Columbia, but they refused to work on the car. Instead, it went to Sedalia and that was an additional $125 charge which we paid the tow company. I called Ford and explained the situation and was reimbursed the additional $125.
Our experience with roadside assist was very smooth during a very stressful breakdown experience.

In my experience with auto insurance roadside assistance and AAA, I have always been better off just finding a local tow company and calling them directly.

Most recently I was in my wife's Bolt and ran over a piece of metal exiting the wash tunnel of a car wash. The tire popped and went flat almost instantly. I called my insurance company roadside assistance and it seemed like it would work great. I was on the phone for 10 minutes, got the name and number of the tow company that was coming, and an ETA of 30 minutes.

Thirty minutes later I called the number. They had not received a request to come to me and talking to them they were located 45 minutes away. I called the roadside assistance back and they said it was all good on their end but had obviously done something wrong.

I hung up and called a local tow company I found using Google maps. They gave me an ETA of 10 minutes. As I hung up with them the tow company roadside assistance called me back to tell me they had just received the request but it would be at least an hour. I told them not to worry as I was canceling the request. Before I could get off the phone to cancel the request, the tow truck I had called 5 minutes ago was pulling up.

So I cancelled all the roadside assistance I was paying a tiny amount for on my auto insurance because I found the service I was getting was not worth the tiny amount.

I will stick with finding and calling a local tow company.

Did your local tow company know how to tow an EV? I’ve seen horror stories about some tow services.

They asked what car they were towing and showed up with a flatbed tow truck.

Said they make so much money off cars that don't come with spare tires.
