Hey Ford, Don’t forget about secure roof racks for your water sport fans!

Well don't hold your breath. Evidently they are not giving US customers a trailer hitch for bike racks.

I think I am understanding this thing being called a Mustang now. It us not a SUV. No utility.

Retrofitting at the dealerships, after the hype has died down, is a good strategy to bleed more out of the buyers - when they realize it’s just not functional as people’s lives require.

There is a reason crossovers are the majority of the market.

Rather than an SUV, it's sounding more like a sporty crossover with limited utility as an afterthought.

Q: Will there be a roof rack available?

A: We’re working with one supplier on a unique way to mount a roof rack. The roof rail molding is a unique design on the Mach-E so because of that we’re looking at a different type of technology for how to get a roof rack This will be coming out closer to launch.

My prediction is there will be aftermarket roof racks for the Mack E. This is based upon the aircraft style doors which allows mounting devices such as what Thule offers:

In size and style the Mach E is a crossover no matter how Ford advertises it.

Even no one at Ford has said so I believe that is part of the strategy Ford is using to make the dealers happy. Don't know about your dealer but mine has it's own accessories department with a dedicated salesman.

Mach-E someday maybe

Curious, where did Ford say that we won’t even be able to get a hitch adaptor for a bike rack? That’s disappointing.
Hopefully there will be some good 3rd party options, because that little detail could be a deal breaker.

Also see the Towing capacity? thread.

We had the opportunity to speak with Ford Mach-E managers at the 2019 LA Auto Show today and we're happy to report the following answers. We hope you find it informational!

. . .

Q: Will there be a trailer hitch available?

A: Not for the U.S.

Thanks.

Ford has some fast thinking to do...

An SUV without roof rack and hitch accessories is simply; (to quote what I once heard about Model X) a drive your kids to private school vehicle.

It's a Venn diagram of key market segments because Ford had to put all their chips in one basket to break into the EV space and be considered a serious player without seriously damaging the piggy bank. It's not really an SUV or a sports car, but it IS a sporty crossover - and that has to be enough for now. If they manage to make it a success, THEN you can look forward to a true SUV and MAYBE a sports coupe.

Neither Yakima nor Thule have solutions on their websites at this time.

I just received the following from Yakima, which may help those of you who already have Yakima systems.
Hello Mark, and thank you for contacting Yakima support.

We do have a fit, it is just with an older system:

TOWER: Q Towers (Set of Four)
FRONT CLIP: Q78 Clips
REAR CLIP: Q78 Clips
CROSSBAR: Medium (58") RoundBar Pair (2 CrossBars)
FAIRING: 52" WindShield

http://fitlookup.yakima.com?fitid=4267

We no longer make the Q78 clips, so you will need to find them at a secondary seller like rerack.com , rackattack.com , Ebay, or amazon.
I've reached back out to them to see if they have a fit for their current roof racks. I've also reached out to Thule and am awaiting a response.

Bummer.
@pdxzzr just replied: The link they gave you leads to a regular Mustang, not the Mach E
I'm reaching back out to Yakima.
