I’ve read a bunch about brake material sticking to the rotors, but i see a lot of rust on my rotors. Car is generally garaged but is this expected??

Rotors rust even more with EV's as they do not get used much. This can happen with humidity and rain is not required. Mostly surface rust here (as yours) and after 3+ years still have no pitting. Would be nice to have a carbon fiber alternative for rotors as it would save on the wheel cleaning big time. Brake dust is not the problem rotor rust is on mine.

I see that RockAuto is advertising corrosion-resistant rotors for EV applications.
Not a recommendation, just an observation.

It’s an easy fix as well.: just take that bad boy for a spin and test out your 60-0 brake times.. that will clean them right up
The less aggressive method is to go about 30 mph, put the car in neutral, and brake normally.

In neutral it uses all friction brakes.

1) Accelerate to speed. Ensure no one is right behind you.
2) Shift to N, gently apply brakes, but no need to stop.
3) Shift to D. Repeat sequence 2 more times.

Do this after every rain, every car wash, and if the car sits for weeks at a time.

Normal. That can happen overnight after a little bit of rain
Mine rust as well with rain or the next day after washing the car. I keep my 2023 Premium outside since my 1998 Jeep TJ stays in the garage and the other spot has my golf cart, a couple of E-bikes and misc crap. I installed Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors on my wife's 2017 Jeep Trailhawk last September which is not garaged and she drove it all winter in NE Ohio and there is no rust on the front and back rotors. They use a higher quality steel on the drilled and slotted rotors. I had the regular Power Stop on my 2014 Volt and they did rust, but not as bad as the stock rotors. One of the first things I do before leaving the neighborhood in the Mach E is get the car up to 35 MPH, put it in neutral and use the mechanical brakes to get the thin layer of rust off.

If you are driving 1 pedal or in Unbridled then the brakes are not self cleaning through use. Change to Engage. Otherwise, everyone who replied has a point.

There's not cleaning in any mode.
