I noticed a small tear in the driver seat. Has anyone had a similar issue and if so what repair kit did they use?

That is under the bumper to bumper warranty, should you still qualify for it based on mileage.

What have you used to clean/protect your seats? Much like how some tire shine products can cause accelerated dry rot from leeching out antizonant, I've seen similar happen with synthetic leathers. Not sure if that could have happened here but worth considering.

I'll have to ask my local dealer then. I am just over 8,000 miles.

I haven't used any cleaners on it, just water on a damp microfiber cloth. It hasn't had much sun exposure either because it's in the garage most of the time.

I'm no expert but it looks like a puncture to me. It's a really clean cut. I would think a tear would go with the grain a bit, but like I said, I'm no expert.

It's synthetic so there is no real grain..it's all just pressed. I've had an unfortunate number of BMWs with these sorts of tears on the fake leather portions of the seats but they usually do show less sharp edges.

It looks to me to be lateral on the seat portion which is where the seat could have some extra stretch, but also where a sharp object in the pocket or some bedazzled but pocket jeans might do some damage. ?

They do make kits to fix these but they rarely turn out looking good or lasting. I'd definitely try the warranty route and if that didn't work, probably just trying to get a replacement cover for the seat.
