All, I have a 2023 GTPE and didn't come with those two modules when I took delivery in August of 2023 due to chip shortage. Have any of you heard that these two items are now available and will be installed by the dealer? Thanks.

We work on a number of different cars. All those that got shipped without modules usually don't get them installed after the fact. I don't understand how a manufacture can sell a car that's equipped with "fill-in-the-blank" and never put it in the vehicle. Ridiculous.

There is generally a credit issued (on the Window Sticker) for those features that were not able to be installed during manufacturing. I see it all the time on new car stickers, particularly in regards to "Active Park Assist". I believe Ford discontinued the kick-to-open across most of its vehicles, not just the MME. I have had that on two previous cars, and it never worked reliably.

I never quite understood what Ford did with kick-to-open. Most '22s had the hardware, but it was disabled in the software. Of course it can be enabled in Forscan, but how many owners know that and have the wherewithal to activate it? I love the feature, though it can be hit-or-miss with PAAK, it works quite well when PAAK is connected. I think Ford is doing itself a disservice stripping the feature from its models as competing vehicles offer that function.

I don't care about park assist and certainly wouldn't spend hundreds to have it "added back" to my vehicle.

Ford officially removed the self parking and hands-free liftgate from the '23-'24 models, and the '22 models had them offered but didn't have them installed because of the supply chain issues. So I think you were able to order the parts after the sale...

But EV-Vida sells an aftermarket hands-free lift gate module, and it's deeply discounted right now.

I have one, but haven't installed it yet. It's a fair amount of work, but hoping to get to it in the next week or two.

Mach-e VLOG has a detailed install video:

Ford is eliminating Park Assist going forward because NO ONE USES IT.

I had a 21 with the " hands-free liftgate" and it was pretty iffy. Didn't miss it when I upgraded to a 22.

What I want is the Kia Telluride Smart Liftgate where you approach the rear and stand by it for a few seconds and it will open the rear hatch. It worked reliably and I didn't have to contort around with my leg when my hands were full.

I have a 22 and have the PA button in my car along with the "prep kit".

No one at the dealership knows about anything about a later purchase date or installation, that is mentioned in the email.

My 22 has the kick-to-open hardware and I enabled it with Forscan and use it all the time. Pretty much always works. I've played with the park assist but it's just not easy enough to use regularly.

The Kick to Open lift gate hardware is in the 2022 cars, it is just not activated. It can be activated via FORScan. ??

LOL I, too, have bought the EV-Vida module but I have not yet worked up the nerve to try installing. Might consider doing that at the same time as a rear camera since you have to disassemble essentially all the rear interior.

I never quite understood that Hyundai/Kia system. What happens if you’re just standing behind the car talking to someone? The liftgate just opens into you? And what if you’re standing by the garage door with your car inside? Could the liftgate open into the garage door?

I have installed the EV-VIDA liftgate module last fall. It actually seems to be more reliable than the factory unit that was in my 2020 Escape. The installation was complex but I have had no problems with it. The price was actually less than it is now.

Wrong. I use it (rarely). It has been handy on the occasions I did use them.
I’m pretty annoyed that, instead of improving it (like other manufacturers we won’t name in polite company), Ford just said ā€œthis is too hardā€ and gave up. I hope the ā€œget rid of self-parkā€ decision-maker at least got a decent bonus ?
