My Mach E is only charging at around 25 amps even on higher amp chargers. Is this normal? I have tried a 40amp Clipper Creek, 32amp Ford mobile charger, several public level 2 chargers, and a couple of different Tesla destination chargers with 40amp adapter. Is there some limitation that I am not aware of? This is happening across all levels of charge from 20% to 80%. I have never charged to higher than 90% nor gone below 18%.

Where are you getting your charging speed from?

I’m using the info provided in the Ford Pass app such as power added during the charge and percentage added. I’ve checked multiple times during a charge and the power added stay very steady. I barely ever get over 6kw added per hour. Even with loss factored in it still seems slow. But maybe I’m just missing something.

The charging info in FordPass is never right for me. I wouldn't trust that at all.

Even still, the percentage added is tracking with the same speed. Over a 3 hour period, I’m only adding 20% of range to my extended battery (91kw). That’s 6kw per hour. Is this normal for everyone?it just doesn’t make sense that I’m getting the same speed regardless of whether I’m on a 42kw charger, 40kw charger, 32kw charger, or 30kw charger.

6kW is normal for me when I plug into the ChargePoint at work (208v x 30A). 11kW is normal for me when I plug in at home (240v x 48A). Do any of the EVSEs that you're using display the charging rate?

Unfortunately none of the EVSEs that I have tried show a charging rate. I do not know anyone with a smart charger. Mostly it is public chargers like at malls and grocery stores along with a couple of Tesla destination chargers that are at places I visit a couple of times a week for 3 hours at a time. Would be nice if those would add more charge. Another Mach E owner I talked to at that location claims he adds a lot more charge than me in the same time period, but who knows since we don't have the same size battery. Maybe I am getting normal speeds, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Have you tried using the apps for any of the public stations? ChargePoint will graph your charging speed, but most L2 public stations arenā€˜t more than 6 or 7 kW.

Most every public L2 is going to be 32A @ 208v (at best.....some will be circuit share so even less if another vehicle is on that same circuit). At those sites, 7% per hour of charging is quite normal for an extended range battery.

Thank you for this. Any thoughts on why an 80A Telsa destination charger with a 48amp converter is only charging at 6kw per hour (25 amps)?

How do you know the charger can supply 80A? Most Tesla destination chargers I’ve seen at public places are wired for 32A.

Because very few of those are actually on a 100A circuit. They are almost always turned down.

Then you have the added issue of that 48A adapter. How does it communicate to the car to only draw 48A? That is a PWM signal generated by the EVSE. Does the adapter modify that signal somehow? It's amazing those things work at all IMO.....

I have not been at a station which has feedback. I haven't had to pay anywhere yet. Just free stations so far and at home.

All good points. I only verified that the sticker showed it was capable of outputting 80 amps. I will have to find somewhere I can confirm a higher output and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you for this info. You are probably right. I was just reading the sticker with the capable output and didn't think about it being setup differently. It makes sense.
