The replacement pack voltage would have to 'close' to the same nominal to match motor, inverter, dc-dc, etc..... but changing the chemistry, or changing to solid-state would just be a matter of changing the software charge curve and rate parameters. easy.... ;)
Agreed, it should be possible with the right replacement, and software changes. But.... I don't think Ford has any plans to backport module updates for this purpose. Their responsibility to shareholders is to sell *new* vehicles.

Like a lot of things in software, something that sounds easy conceptually, is actually quite a bit harder in implementation. Since the software is proprietary, there isn't an opportunity for someone in the community to figure it out either.

If they can make money selling new batteries for used Mach E's, why wouldn't they?

They currently make an electric crate motor for classic/used cars, this would be a long the same lines IMO
