Coming back from the Coast of Georgia to Metro Atlanta; there was a small Podunk town that apparently has a small and big walmart. Pulled into the wrong one with 4% (also with daughter in car...but 19 year old) freaked out a little that there were no chargers at this walmart. Eventually double checked the address and SLOWLY drove 5 miles to the Big Walmart.

There is a saying in the aviation community: "It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than being in the air wishing you were on the ground." I'm thinking we could adjust that to the EV community.

A generic version of this saying is
It's better to have 'a thing' and not need it, than
need 'a thing' and not have it.

substitute your favorite for 'a thing':
fuel
warm clothing
shelter
spare tire
cell phone
etc.

I’ve no sympathy for those that run out of energy (gas, propane, diesel, gas, hay, whatever). I did figure out that my gas ST Adrenalin had 1.2 gallons when the needle was ever so barely below the bottom of “E”, which meant ~4% left. Ford should’ve put a vague gauge in. 5 marks maybe.

Electricity, not being a liquid like gasoline, water or wine, is a lot harder to quantify in such terms... no weight or volume to it.

Thought I’d chime in my experience. Never doing this again, was driving around 50% of the limit for the last 5km ?

I was going home in a snowstorm recently and managed to get my Premium, RWD, extended range down to zero %. There were several warnings from the car about the low battery condition. Not sure how many miles I drove after the zero%. Maybe as many as 3 or 4.

So when she fell asleep, I ever so slyly and conveniently shut everything off to conserve energy and gained a bit of miles back. We arrived to charge and she asked "When did it get so cold?" "I must have accidentally lowered the heat, I will fix that now honey."
That is 100% something my dad would do and probably has something to do with why I have anxiety letting anyone else drive as an adult! ;)

This thread is making me feel much better about going low in the MachE. I live where there are massive temperature fluctuations and wind fluctuations which can make planning stops tricky, and most DCFC are only 50KW ones so charging takes time. The car has no idea about actual range so I am constantly calculating on the fly based on battery percentage and kWh/100km being used. I have been afraid of hitting "turtle mode" (which my aforementioned dad has done many times in his EV Kona) while on the highway trying to make it home, but it sounds like the car will let you keep going until you get really really low. I hope to not push it that far, especially with my 4 month old in the car, but at least I know it might be forgiving. Thanks for the discussion, OP!

I am having a hard time with the multiple acronyms commonly used on this site: GOM, EEK, MME, DCFC, SOCD, SOC, FFE, SSN, and more...
Please enlighten me!
Thanks

My wife brought our ID.4 to my work with 3% and 6 miles of range, 20° out and 11 miles to get home. Shut off everything and drove 50mph regening anytime possible!
It went into Turtle Mode about a half mile from out house and 20mph max. Rolled in the drive just before it shut off.

We went on an impromptu road trip. Had 54% on the meter. I made it to the DCFC station with 0% and 0mi on the GOM.

DCFC = Direct Current Fast Charging station
GOM = Guess-O-Meter (aka battery level meter)
SOC = State of Charge (aka battery level)
SSN = Stop Safely Now message on the dashboard
MME = Mustang Mach-E

To add to Mike's previous post:

SoCD = state of charge displayed. The SoCD is what you see on the screen inside the car but it isn't the actual battery state of charge (SoC). The battery is never charged to 100% SoC because there is a buffer at the top of the battery to keep it from getting damaged.

EEK - what you say when a madman is chasing you with a chainsaw.

FFE - not sure but FE is First Edition.

Any others you are wondering about?
