Today, for the first time, I was surprised by random deep, base sounds (thuds) coming from my rear speakers when playing audio either from CarPlay or the built-in radio. At first, it sounded like someone was banging on the back of the car, but it was actually coming out of the rear speakers as a deep thud or thump. I also had occasional static. Oh, and the engine sound generation is NOT active.

It was random, but persistent, regardless the audio source, and definitely stopped when I turned off the audio system. And then it would start again randomly whatever the input source. Has anyone experienced this? I’m hoping there’s an easy fix so I don’t have to go back to the dealer, but I realize I might. Thanks so much for any guidance!

I can’t seem to find anything about this, but please point me in the right direction if I missed it. Thanks!

I've had random audio wonkiness, just yesterday only my passenger side speakers were working. Try restarting the center screen - volume down, next track on the steering wheel held down together until you see the screen reboot, about 10 seconds.

Hi Peter. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me today. CarPlay was working well in the morning, but when I restarted my car after stopping to pick up some groceries, the rear speakers played a series of loud thuds. I tried to play music from a number of playlists, but the songs were barely audible and turning up the volume made only the thuds louder. I deleted my phone from my car and then added it back a few hours later and, once I did, everything was back to normal. I am not sure whether deleting and readding my phone did the trick or whether the issue resolved itself, but the problem has not reoccurred.

Caused by a low 12V battery. Drive the car around for several hours to charge the 12V battery back up, or use a 12V battery charger. If the thumping persists, then you should pull fuse #23 under the glove box to reset the audio amplifier.
