I know the Manual states that the Mach-E has Speed sign recognition however, does it also use the Mapping system (Ford’s, Google’s, Waze) to display the speed limit on the display?

There are many roads around my Town and State that display the speed limit VIA a Sign like all other states and towns, (and around the world I’m sure) but as an example, entering a stretch of road here the speed limit has changed recently from 55 to 45 mph. Initially the MME shows 45 (signage at the start) but about a mile down the road the display goes to 55 with no speed limit sign, then a bit further another sign showing 45 and the MME display drops back to 45. So, from this I can guess that it uses both. But because the mapping software hasn’t been updated it will flip back and forth.

Fun stuff.

Which bring up another interesting question. How far apart should these speed limit signs be placed? A quick search came up with really nothing of value.

My car reads the speed signs. For some reason, it has a problem with Electronic Speed Signs. It reads them reliably UNLESS they read “35”. Then, it ignores the sign. It’s been that way since I got the car ?‍♂

I live near the highway US 50. Unfortunately the car reads that sign as the speed limit, which is actually 65 MPH usually.

I was always under the impression it reads the signs only. I noticed when there is a disagreement with WAZE it will show what the last sign indicates. Many times it will miss a sign and show a blank while WAZE still indicates it's posted speed. I still think it's kinda magic.

I have the same issue on Corridor H in WV. It's four lane alignment is new route route 48, old two-lane alignment is route 55. In some areas old 55 is contiguous with new 48 and signed as both 48 and 55, just to keep things interesting. Speed limit in WV is 65. The car will often interpret the Hwy 55 signage as a speed limit sign and decelerate. My car also confuses the speed limit signs on I 66 in areas with HOT lanes posted at 70 and adjacent non-HOT lanes posted at 55. It's really interesting when it decides the speed limit jumps from 55 to 70 in the insane traffic on the regular non- HOT I 66 lanes. I've learned its behavior and now anticipate the car's confusion and adjust accordingly, including not using any cruise in some areas and just driving old school with me as the driver being the decision maker controlling the car, instead of vice versa. OP asked about a standard for the frequency of speed limit signage ... I suspect there is an AASHTO standard for that, I just don't know what it is.

In NY we have signs that mark the end of a lower speed limit. So there will be a sign might read "end 45 speed limit" and my '23 MME CaRte1 will reliably read that as a 45 mph limit. I've learned to use both my own eyes in combination with the car. Which I still really enjoy, 32K miles later, even thought I live in a part of the world where my range is temp dependent.

As others have stated, the car uses both the camera to read speed signs and uses an internal database in the Ford Connected Navigation (built by Garmin). It does not use anything from Google or Waze.

I was driving the speed limit +5 going 50. I was passing a truck to my right. I never saw any speed limit sign but the car started slowing. I thought maybe it just quit. But a few moment later I realized I was in a School zone. I think the car got that from gps as I saw no sign. Maybe the truck blocked it.

It is magic.

I will never have "Predictive Speed Assist" option set to ON because of the issues with reading signs.

If you flew that beast in your profile, you can handle the issues with reading signs.

Mine does not recognize school zone speed limit signs, anyone else having that problem?

I can say with experience that the speed doesn't only change because of speed limit signs (or what the car thinks are speed limit signs). There is a ~400-ft stretch on the street I take to work where my cruise almost always jumps from 25 MPH to 35 MPH even though there's no sign. (Maybe once out of every 20 or 25 times, it doesn't happen.) There is no sign even remotely resembling a speed limit sign at the point where it starts. In fact there's no sign at all. It stops at the next 25 MPH sign.

The odd thing to me is that it only happens when I'm driving west to east--not in the other direction. I'd think that if it was changing because of some kind of data in the nav computer, it would happen going both directions. I'm going to try the link provided by @kdonnel in post #2, though.

EDIT - The HERE Map Creator does seem to show that the road is segmented at the exact point where my cruise jumps in speed, and the segment ends where the speed goes back to what it should be, BUT it's the correct speed in both directions. ??‍♂
