I rented a Kia Niro EV a few weeks ago, and my experiences mostly align with other posts here.

The HVAC controls were pretty confusing, but probably would get (slightly) better with familiarity.

The plug cover over the charge part was annoying, but the front center charge port location is nice.

Carplay not automatically taking over the infotainment screen when active was baffling. One time, it did start on its own, but every other time was 2 screen presses. Ugh.

Getting to a % battery display was also 2, or maybe 3 button presses. GOM was available at all times though. Actual range vs estimated range was on par with the MME in my limited experience.

Displayed efficiency was slightly, but noticeably, better than the MME.

Ride quality was a mixed bag. Most of the time, it was similar or maybe slightly better than the MME, but on rough roads, I thought it was worse than the MME.

Ford may have the best ADAS user interface. Damn. With there was something better. The manual became a magnitude better when they added an AI search tool. Wish the dealer had someone who knows more about the car than me. I would rank me as mediocre OK.

I want to try the Comma Ai adas system which is around $1000 and the gets good reviews.

But Comma only works with 2024 and earlier MME's since Ford locked our system for 2025 and up

I ordered one at the same time I ordered a MME in Mar of 22. The MME came in Aug but the I5 didn't show up until Jan 23. The $7,500 tax credit ended 12/31/22 on the I5. We drove it around for several hours. Don't remember not liking how it operated except Carplay wasn't wifi, it was hardwired. Liked the way the seats reclined both front and back. By then the craze had ended and they offered me $10K under my cost for my MME.

it will indeed not save one pedal which is annoying. I do like the spaceship aesthetic of their interface and shifter

the cruise control is on the wrong side. That said, it is easy to change regen with the paddle shifts, and I sure like the one button for the vents

However, I greatly prefer the Mach E overall. If the Mach E didn’t exist, then I might drive the Ioniq

Cruise control on RAV4 was on the opposite side res the MME. I still find myself occasionally using the wrong thumb.

I WANTED the ioniq 5 and was actively shopping for a used one and ended up "tripping over" the Mach E for a cant refuse price
my previous EV experience was the ioniq electric and the model 3 as a service loaner
my other choice was a polestar 2 as they are in my price point but no services for them where I live and to get one I would need to travel to Vancouver to buy it and the timing would work as I NEEDED A CAR after writing off my previous one and not going home to Vancouver for 6 weeks at the time

It's not a setting. You have to select your regen level every time you drive it. I'll never buy another car like this. Ford gets this right.
I was curious about this on a different car and looked up the “why.”

Basically it’s for EPA efficiency ratings. The car has to default to the most efficient normal mode.

Because the Mach E uses true blended braking, every mode is equally efficient so it doesn’t have to reset every car cycle (unlike the competitors).

Ford definitely got it right. Drive modes are just personal preference, not some efficiency hack.

What model year was the Ionic 5? The dash display and controls of 2025+ models look SO MUCH better than the MachE. I am still apologizing to everyone who rides in my car how ugly the MachE screens are.
