SSM 51776 2021-2023 Various Ford And Lincoln Vehicles - Driver Monitoring Camera Blockage Message And/Or Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B115E:97, B15E1:97, B15E2:97

Some 2021-2023 Mustang Mach-E/F-150, 2022-2023 Expedition/Navigator and 2023 Corsair vehicles may exhibit a Driver Monitoring Camera Blocked message and/or DTCs B115E:97, B15E1:97 and/or B15E2:97 stored in the driver status monitor camera module (CMR). These DTCs should be disregarded unless it is a DTC with a status byte 8F. Other status bytes should be disregarded as they may be caused by a camera obstruction such as driver position, aftermarket devices or dust on the camera. To clear the DTCs, remove anything obstructing the view of the camera and light emitting diodes (LEDs), place the steering wheel in the center position and close the driver door. Connect Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) and clear the DTCs. Turn the ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Turn the ignition on and wait 1 minute. Perform the CMR self-test and reevaluate if DTCs persist.

----End SSM----

If the driver monitoring camera is blocked (by anything) for more than several seconds while driving on cruise control, these three codes will be set in the CMR. This is extremely common and normal behavior, after removing the blockage the system will return to normal operation in several seconds. I see this message almost daily from the steering wheel blocking the sensor while turning sharply. It could also be triggered if you park with the steering wheel turned.

Ya know, you'd think that after all this time (starting in what...Oct of '20 ?) they would have reworked that CMR binnacle to extend it up about 3/4-1" on a short riser bracket to get it more in line with the driver's eyeline. And maybe, just maybe, they could have programmed the software to ignore any errors that resulted from the steering wheel being at an angle that would result in a blockage. This has been going on for a very, very long time now. Every car out there has CMR errors, and they've done nothing in the 2.8 years the car has been produced to fix a well known problem.

Except release SSMs.

I think they should have programed it to ignore being blocked when the steering wheel is turned. That would be easy to do with the steering angle sensor input.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Maybe they can get Chat-GPT to update the code for them?

This is no different than the previous SSM, right? I was getting this error nonstop on drives, as I messaged you about, and the previous fix posted took care of it and this seems to be the same?

Yours seems like a different problem than this SSM because it was coming up when the sensor wasn't actually blocked?

Correct, and was doing the crazy resume control thing, then would resume BC fine right after, then go straight back to spazzing out, repeating nonstop. On complete straightaways, hands on my legs. But this still fixed it (well, the directions from the last SSM which were the same as this).

My BC stopped working after I got my car back from replacing the HVBJB. I'm getting these codes now and ford claims I had the codes before I took the car in for the replacement, but BC worked fine then. Will these codes cause BC to stop working? CoPilot 360 still works. eAWD 2021

You might want to send me your VIN so I can see what's going on in your specific case. And when the codes happened.
