I believe that if Ford provided realtime updating of many things, some people would seek an update say every minute of every hour. The number of server hits would be crazy.

I have technology around my house that provides updates, and much of it is much faster than Ford, but also more likely to be necessary. Is my garage door open? Is my front door not locked? What's the temp in the family room?
there are definitely ways to do this at scale - this is in the realm of architecting and engineering APIs correctly. car status updates are far smaller in scale than any single free email service and they manage it just fine.

Sure, I'd like Ford to provide more info, but much of what is sought isn't available on any Ford vehicle, so if they do Mach-Es they have to do everything. FordPass is brand-wide, not EV.
yes, ford needs to separate their future from their past more than just in branding. well said.

with OAuth2 in use the app doesn't store your username and password - just adds the token after initial auth.

forced refresh (requesting a refresh from the car as opposed to just refreshing existing data on servers) frequency is a concern so i've made sure the few 3rd party apps i use give control over that frequency to the user.
That’s good to know. I wonder if any of the iOS widgets or shortcuts have found a way to use OAuth2.

Hmmm, my old BMW used to show me door lock and window status. Maybe we didn’t get all of the good German engineers years ago.

Do the widgets still work? I thought Ford switching to OAuth broke those? Also Ford started locking people’s accounts who were using it.
I don’t think the iOS widget works anymore

Ya I never used that though. I used to use the shortcuts every day though.

Yeah, that's not at all how that works. The vehicle does provide "real time" updates when it reports in and is then reflected in FordPass. This is evident in charge percentages etc. So, Ford already does this. People can also refresh FordPass, now, as many times as they want. What they don't do is show status', which is the topic of this thread. Many other auto mfgs do report real time status' of the vehicle including Tesla, Rivian, BMW, VW etc. This isn't an infrastructure issue.
