Not sure if this is sync or FordPass:
1. I approach the car with my iPhone in my pocket. Car lights come on to greet me. I open the door, toss the phone on the charge mat. Press the start button. The car goes through the startup sequence and I put the car into D. As I begin driving away, I get the red box in the IC “No key detected”. Oh really? So why did you let me start the car and begin driving? ?

On Android at least, the app version is at the bottom of the Account -> Settings screen.
you are totally right, I was looking for an 'About'

my current version shows 3.20.1
but no indication if this is the latest, or if I can click to 'update now'.
or, if it updates automatically according to my general settings somewhere.

and.... I'll say it again, wouldn't it be nice to know exactly what bugs/enhancements were added in 3.20.1 update, and what KNOWN ISSUES they are working on, but haven't fixed yet ?

That sounds like a phone thing, not a Ford thing.

probably yes, a phone thing... so If I can trust that my phone will keep me updated, my biggest request is that update notifications contain some meaningful details on what is in the update, and top prioritiy issues that are known and under development for next update.

please let's not have the whole "how phone apps update"/"what phone app release notes look like"/"what phone apps should do" discussion again. that horse is so dead I've already used the glue on a crafts project.

Ok, so I figured out an issue with Profiles that I believe is tied to the FordPass app. In summary, the car would have the correct settings with my profile, but when I unlocked the car with PaaK, the incorrect settings would be pushed to the car. Even worse, updating certain settings in the car did not update the profile stored on the phone. The settings that were stuck:
  • Ambient Lighting tied to driving mode (stuck ON)
  • Audio system fade (stuck slightly to the rear)
  • Rear camera delay (stuck OFF)
  • Auto Hold (stuck ON)
How I tested this:
  1. Removed key fob from my wife's profile
  2. Added key fob to my own profile
  3. Turned off bluetooth to my phone so that it was no longer communicating with the car
  4. Used key fob to unlock the car
  5. Updated some settings
  6. Walked away from the car and let it auto lock
  7. Come back to the car and verified that the settings were correct
How I tested that it was a FordPass app issue:
  1. Deleted the phone from my profile
  2. Corrected the settings
  3. Added the phone to my profile
  4. Locked car
  5. Used the PaaK to unlock the car
  6. Verify that the settings were incorrect
Then to confirm, I:
  1. Deleted my PaaK
  2. Uninstalled the FordPass app
  3. Deleted my profile
  4. Recreated profile
  5. Added the key fob to the new profile
  6. Set the settings
  7. Drove the car as normal for a few days to verify that the settings didn't change
  8. Reinstalled the FordPass app
  9. Added PaaK back onto the phone
  10. Added the phone back to the profile
  11. Verified that the settings did not change
  12. Drove the car as normal for a few days to verify that the settings didn't change

Now everything seems to work fine (except Auto Hold still doesn't seem to turn off, even though I set the setting to off—I feel the car grab with the brakes when I come to a stop, even on flat ground). Bonus, my profile picture actually synced.

So there seems to be an issue where a profile (maybe a plist or JSON file) can get stuck on the phone and the server won't push the car's profile to the phone because it thinks the phone's profile is newer. I deleted the app from the phone to verify that all the local data was deleted.

Hi,

Not sure if you seen this thread.. but we've been working on re-designing the app to make it more user-friendly.

What the live Ford app looks like when you open it today: You have to scroll down to get to buttons. Pop-ups often riddle this screen:

My proposed app 1st screen. No scrolling. All controls easy to see, easy to use. And you have real information at a glance about your vehicle:

:

What the live Ford app looks like in vehicle screen, can't find anything easily. Have to scroll down, scroll right, and run into sections that freeze briefly:

My proposed screen. Just slide from vehicle to Glove Box. No scrolling up or down or sideways. All the buried, hard to find items Ford has in the live app vehicle screen can be found right here in this screen with a simple touch, easily:

Play around with my interactive demo. If Ford can build a world class EV, they can build a world class app to compliment it. Tell Ford you want the FordPass app improved.

Thanks to @macchiaz-o and @Mirak among others for helping me refine this wireframe.

I wish there was a way I could press a button and have the car begin pre-conditioning. (Get ready for use.) I don't have a fixed schedule and would like to be able to hit the button five or ten minutes, (or whatever it takes,) before I leave. THis would also be useful when I am finishing up something (dinner, day at the fair etc.) and I want the car to be pre-heated or AC'd (depending on the season).
