Hi, I searched threads and couldn't find one related to this problem, so apologies in advance if it's ben a previous discussion topic.
I have been using 1PD of late, and the last few highway drives I put the car into cruise control at 71mph, and after a minute or two, the car on it's own started accelerating and changed the CC setting to 75. I hadn't touched anything including the + set button. This has now happened multiple times and I am conscious of not touching any other buttons. Has anyone else experienced this?

My guess - you have speed limit detection set. The car can “see” the speed limit signs and will adjust speed accordingly. You can set a tolerance for that too, say “9 over” or (yikes)”2 under.” It’s a setting under Cruise Control but there are two different “speed” sensing settings. One will just warn you when you’re going too fast and the other operates with CC to actually adjust the speed.

Happens all the time to those who don’t realize what adaptive speed settings will do.
It’s an interesting feature, but should come with some big pop up warning.

And to add even more fun to the 'speed limit' detect, it won't always properly detect what the sign reads. I don't use speed recognition for cruise control, but there was a '50' speed sign with some dirt on it that made my car always read it as '60' every time I passed it.

Turn off speed limit detection.

Please read your owner's manual, especially when it come to driving aids such as cruise control and BlueCruise.

This is a really terribly implemented feature. I'm surprised Ford hasn't taken steps to redesign it as it continues to surprise and scare new owners.

The flip side of this is one would think if there was a potentially dangerous feature it'd be called out, and not a default. The 'manual' for this car is terribly confusing in sections, let alone for anyone wanting to read it from the drivers seat.

Recently, I had sudden deceleration. I was set to 25 mph approaching a “your speed is” sign. The sign said 24 and the car slowed down to 24 then said 23 and the car slowed down to 23. So it was in a feedback loop to zero. I shut it off after a few cycles or I’d have been down to 10 by the time I reached the sign. I had to laugh at that.

35E in Dallas has toll express lanes in center of the freeway. The speed limit on the normal lanes is 60-70 depending on the area with the express lanes at 75, and the car often reads the express lane speed limit signs (or, it reads the 50mph signs on the frontage road). It's a great idea, but poorly implemented to date.

This happened to me several times, but my car thought it saw speed limit signs of 85 mph and accelerated to that speed. I was surprised because I thought Blue Cruise didn't go over 82.
Anyway, I turned off speed sign recognition and it has never happened again.

I have had it happen about once every two thousand miles. Whenever I experience more than modest acceleration I react if inappropriate.

ps, because Ford ties this feature in with maps, they should have an EASILY available response team address the issue.

I always loved when the car suddenly decelerates from highway speeds when it reads a sign from the off ramp. It makes it even more exciting when you have a transport behind you. I turned that setting off. I can read the signs myself. Call me "old school".

This past week, speed detection thought I was still on the highway and changed my speed from 30 to 60. Bottom line, SD should be turned off in many cases.

I've experienced the good and bad of this feature:
The bad: I've had it misread digital signs as 85mph when they said 65mph. There's one highway merge on my commute where the car thinks the speed limit after merging is still 40mph, and it won't update until I pass a speed limit sign.

The good: I was on a highway that I wasn't familiar with that had a speed limit change from 65 to 55 that I never saw (it was by a weird interchange and there was a lot going on). The car saw it and slowed down, with a cop waiting a quarter mile up.
