Yeah between the 'superstalk' and the reduced frunk space (I make full use of my frunk), I don't imagine myself upgrading to the latest model. I have a standing order for my salesman to call me when they eventually get '25s in so I can see it in person though. Speaking shifter of placement, my Lincoln Corsair has the shifter up below the vents like an old timey radio, so maybe 'superstalker' isn't that bad ?

I remember that some ā€˜60s Oldsmobiles had a row of buttons for their shifter on the dash: P R N D 2 1. ??

I didn’t even like column shifters in my Cadilacs, but they were necessary because of bench seats. Any vehicle with bucket front seats should not have a column shifter. If they wanted to get rid of the console-mounted shift, they should have gone to paddles on the steering wheel. Personally, I don’t like those either but They are several steps above the rotary shifter and more logical than a column shifter. ??

Everyone wants to be different and offer something unique ? I didn't think I would like the MME shifting at first but got used to it pretty quickly. Still struggling with the Lincoln. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it's all strictly voice control, Tesla will probably lead the way "Hey Tesla, go forward, no, faster forward, ok stop Stop STOP!" ?

The rotary dial is my least favorite feature on the Mach-E - I am constantly turning it the wrong direction. My wife's EV6 has one as well, and she doesn't love it.

My problem is that it doesn’t have any sort of lockout. I used to turn it in the wrong direction but that has been trained out. That took a lot longer than I would have liked. There is good reason to keep these kinds of interfaces unchanged, but that’s what you get when product managers, marketeers, and designers are making decisions that should be in the hands of engineers (said by the engineering dog who has a marketing degree). ??

How is a column shifter less than logical? Move it one direction for forward, opposite direction for reverse, etc. I could understand not liking the ergonomics, but the logic seems ok.

Passengers sometimes remark to me that they are glad their car doesn't have the knob between the seats like my '21. I think it is perfect. Also, it takes up little space and looks inexpensive to replace, unlike ostentatious previous-generation automatic gear selectors. Maybe I'm wrong. The new superstalk seems OK on the taking-up space issue, but why change?

It’s not a logical decision to put a column shifter in a car that has bucket seats. ?ā€ā™‚?

Marketers gonna market. They kinda fell down on the job with the "40% smaller frunk", tho - They should've come up with something like "lightweight performance frunk improves steering feel through 40% weight reduction!"
Not sure cramming the void that was the frunk with heat pump equipment realized a 40% reduction in weight.

The rotary gear selector looks cool, but I don't love using it. After a year with it, I still turn it the wrong direction from time to time.

I think I'd be ok with the column shifter if it didn't require moving the wiper switchgear to the left of the wheel. It's bad enough the radio and cruise buttons are opposite of ever other car I've owned. I often go to turn the radio up and end up increasing the cruise speed.?

Well, the frunk tub itself *is* approximately 40% lighter... Thank you for clarifying - Truth in advertising is a key value for the Ford Motor Company...

Oh, that. I grew up with bench seats, and never gave the column shifter a second thought. Until I started driving manual transmissions in my 20s. It did seem kinda weird to put the stick on the floor... ;)

The rotary shift on my old Jag was great - flush when the car was off but would rise up out of the centre console when you turned the car on. Really added a nice touch of theatre to starting the car…

I quite like the shifter on the column. It's exactly the same as the monostable shifters in 1st gen Model S/Mercedes products. Up for reverse, down for drive, end of stalk for park.

Yet another reason to not buy a 2025.
