It’s pretty crazy how when Ford first came out with the dial shifter it was universally hated and now *NOT* having the dial is a complete dealbreaker.

Have any of yall ever even used an electronic column shifter like this one? It’s way easier to use than the dial.

Yes, and no it’s not. Plus it’s not the only change that’s unacceptable. Beyond that, the dial shifter wasn’t universally hated.

Absent that, whether rotary dial or 3 on the tree are both just compromises I can live with if given no better choice.
Hah. 3-on-the-tree is a phrase I haven't heard out loud in years. I hear it in my head occasionally, usually when someone is trolling a new shifter design, and I think "At least it's not a 3-on-the-tree".

And that Is why I’ve reached the end of the line with the Mach-e. Odds are very close to 100% there won’t be another one in our garage.
Exactly the same way it's been on Mercedes for over a decade. I would encourage everyone to keep an open mind, it really is faster and more natural and more idiot proof than you're giving it credit for, which is why it's being adopted all over the car industry.

I promoted on several previous forums that Ford implement a joystick gear shift, similar to the Toyota Prius, which could allow activating/deactivating 1PD mode easily. I have not found a video showing if or how the superstalk shifter allows 1PD mode. Anyone know?

Yeah between the 'superstalk' and the reduced frunk space (I make full use of my frunk), I don't imagine myself upgrading to the latest model. I have a standing order for my salesman to call me when they eventually get '25s in so I can see it in person though. Speaking shifter of placement, my Lincoln Corsair has the shifter up below the vents like an old timey radio, so maybe 'superstalker' isn't that bad ?

I actually like Lincoln’s push button shifters. I had the early iteration of it on my MKZ.

I quite like the shifter on the column. It's exactly the same as the monostable shifters in 1st gen Model S/Mercedes products. Up for reverse, down for drive, end of stalk for park.
It would take me forever to remember which way was which. Why not make it like headlamps - push forward for drive, pull towards you for reverse? At least that would be somewhat logical and intuitive.

I find it funny that people would hate a whole vehicle for a shifter stalk. Less frunk space I can understand. The rotary shifter is terrible but I like my MME just the same. I'm waiting to see if the heat pump actually helps winter range. If not, it wouldn't be worth the lost space imo.
In my mind, it’s not a single thing, but the cumulative effect of all the downgrades: lack of a practical frunk, the stupid stalk, the primitive 1950s-era front turn signals, lack of ventilated seats on the GT (despite the other Mustang GTs having ventilated seats).

I will say though, that I do plan on ultimately upgrading to a GT. I’m just holding off, hoping Ford fixes some of the mistakes and does a refresh on the vehicle.

Oh, I still heavily dislike the rotary shifter. I just believe that column shifters only belong in cars with bench front seats, and even then I've driven 4-speed manual floor-shift cars that had bench seating. I don't think it's a deal-breaker. The micro-frunk is the deal-breaker. ?‍♂?

I learned how to drive in an LTD Brougham! I’ve used a “real” column shifter! (And we won’t discuss the Brazilian market LTD with a column mounted 3 gear MANUAL shifter ?)

the Brazilian market LTD with a column mounted 3 gear MANUAL shifter ?
That is the real definition of "3-on-the-Tree." I've driven a few real 3-on-the-Tree vehicles. Not so bad if you've got an anemic engine. Not good if you've got something with some grunt and are hammering it. Same thing goes for GM's Inland shifter. They bind up when the engine is making torque. Bad JuJu. ??

Coming from an ICE Mercedes this whole conversation seems kinda silly to me. I've been using basically the exact same shifter in my Mercedes for over a decade and guess what - it's awesome! There's a reason Hyundai and GM are also moving to the shifter stalk (although GM annoyingly makes you pull it forward first, unlike Ford who did it right). I'm buying a 2025 and the shifter is definitely a positive along with the ventilated seats and heat pump. They're all great improvements
You're not alone. Agree with all of these things being great improvements. I've had the dial shifter on several vehicles and just never liked it much. It's fine, but it's always a waste of space. Stalk shifter is the same as what most cars have had over the years, most of our recent ones be it our Teslas, my last several Super Duty trucks and more.

It's a bit disappointing that the frunk had to be made that much smaller for the heat pump. But I'd much rather have the heat pump, if it works as it should. I get there are a lot of people who don't see the need for a heat pump. It seems like an unnecessary add-on if you only live and drive in Southern California or Arizona... But I think far more people will benefit from it and it makes no sense for it to be an option. And I don't think I'll ever buy a car again that doesn't have ventilated seats.
