On this forum site, it seems some owner's report that rebooting SYNC is something "i have gotten really good at".

For those owners that have owned for a few years now it would be nice to read some feedback on this... are newer versions of SYNC getting less buggy or forcing less reboots?

Yes. When I first got my 21, I’d have to reboot ar least once a month. Now rarely. My APIM was replaced earlier this year and I don’t remember needing to reboot since.

My APIM has NOT been replaced, ever, and I haven't rebooted Sync in well over 6 months now. (Picked up Feb of 21).

Was the APIM replacement a recall or why was it replaced? As I don't see it in the published recall list for 2021 MME's...

Infotainment screen began to go dark on starting the car occasionally. No recall.

There was a period of time where CarPlay was very unreliable and I had to reboot sync every drive.

It now works so well I never reboot sync.

My wife and I both had the screen go black while driving recently. Both times it came back on. So I did a reboot, for the first time in about a year.

I think I've rebooted three times in 26 months of ownership. I couldn't tell you when the last time was.

Rarely have needed to reboot, but after PowrUp 5.1.1, I read that some connectivity settings may be hosed, so I toggled them and tried to restart Sync. Did not seem to work. In the past restarting would blank and reload the Sync screen, can not get that to happen now. Has anyone else observed this?

Early 2021 build (January 24). The only time I reboot sync is when Apple has updated their iOS and it’s not playing well with the car. Even then, it’s probably not necessary.

During the summers of 2021 and 2022, my SYNC APIM would occasionally restart on its own in the middle of hot drives. Like 3-15 minutes into a drive, it would suddenly restart without warning.

A dealer replaced the APIM at the beginning of this year... it was a several month ordeal to get that squared away. After that it was good for a bit, but now it occasionally freezes up right at the start of the drive. Different symptoms than before, but same sort of outcome. With the freeze up shorting after starting the car, it literally stops updating whatever was on the display and stops responding to inputs (other than the ctrl-alt-del sequence) for 60-90 seconds, after which it restarts by itself and then it's good throughout my drive.

It really feels like a software glitch to me... I don't want to go through replacing it again, either since that was a huge time and stress headache for me. Fingers crossed that future updates will improve the situation.

I'm still only on 3.5.3 so I still have to reboot a lot. I used to pull over, turn off the vehicle, open the door, then start and reboot. Now I just reboot while I'm driving ?

The first year we had problems with the screen going black and Sirius not working. In July of 22 we had a 10,000 and it was one of the issues we had addressed. APIM update failed, and we didn't get back into the dealer till September. They didn't realize that they had 28 days to correct it. So new APIM ordered and took till May 23 to get and put in. No problems since then and no re-sync needed.
