I live in the California desert where, right now, the temperatures are well over 100 degees every day. Today I pulled into my garage and got a message that the temperature was too high and I should plug in the vehicle - which I did. I understand that's because there is some kind of fan when I plug in.
Fortunately, I was home and could plug it into my charger. But what should someone do if they are not home? Has this happened to anyone?

Yup. No reason to worry.
'We Arizonans' have you beat by a lot and the cars are fine.

I live in Las Vegas where the temps have been in the 110s lately. I too received this message the other day as I pulled into my garage. I ignored the message and went inside. It'll be fine.

If you're not home and you're outside, again it should be fine.

Leave it plugged in to L2 charger whenever possible. This will allow the vehicle to cycle the front louvers and run the fan when required. I got this message last Summer. I was not able to plug in, so I started the vehicle and let it run inside the garage at work.

High temps do degrade the battery cells faster, so I'd advise plugging in if you can when you get the message. If you can't plug in, then don't worry about it.

Tesla cools the battery automatically when the car is off and unplugged, which Ford does not do. It drains the battery a little bit while the car is off (phantom drain). Tesla decided that's okay, and Ford decided that's not okay.
