Temporary plates questions

Hey guys, I got my Mach-E on 02/05 and I still haven't received my plates from my dealer (or even my title). I do follow up with them but it's just taking so long.

I am planning to take a road trip from Dallas, TX to Pensacola, FL during the 1st week of May with the Mach-E, couple of questions:
- Can I cross state lines with a temporary plate
- How do I get a plate or renew a temp plate? Temp plate expires on May 5th

I figured I'd ask here as I must not be the only one to ever have been in this situation...

q2: that's up to what Texas says about it but some states have sort of said to ignore temp expirations for now because COVID-19.

in my Ohio case when I did the registration (with a memo title), I was given a replacement temp plate.

I've never had mine expire before receiving my plates but you can cross state lines with the dealer tags. I wouldn't do it if they are expired though. You could get a ticket with it being just parked. The dealer issues the dealer tags so you would have to contact them. The DMV will send the plates to the dealer, assuming they applied for them. Which dealership was this? They should have a DMV clerk that deals with this, probably in the finance department. Ask them first if they actually applied for your plates and then if your plates will be sent overnight or first class to you. As you know, the registration waiver for COVID has expired here in Texas.

1. As others have said, no problem across state lines with temporary plate. In 2018, I drove my Model 3 to South Dakota and back with temp plate.

2. You should check with the dealer and if they have not received your plates yet, they may be able to print a new temp plate for another 30 to 60 days. Texas has stopped the waiver for renewal set last year because of covid. They are probably getting slammed with new and renewal registrations and are a little backed up.
