Is it National Hate on Tesla Day?
No. JD Power released information regarding the quality of the Model Y from factory and other news outlets pick up on it and run with it.

Kinda like the Mach-e. One piece of red meat news would generate 8 stories saying the same basic thing... but yet somehow still managing to make it more confusing. ?

And another review. Kind of makes it look like Car & Driver is pandering to their advertisers and misleading their readers. This tuned Tesla Model Y lapped a track quicker than a 997 Turbo And before some of you insist that I'm just a Tesla Fan Boy, please remember the acceleration that Car & Driver is underwhelmed with is still faster than most fast cars; including the equivalent Mach e. The Car & Driver article is a hatchet piece comparing the base Y to the Performance 3. Yes it's slower, duh. If Tesla bought advertising at Car & Driver, the article would have been better.

Most of the owners initial satisfaction reports are worthless, unless you are left stranded within the first few miles of ownership most people are going to be happy, there are not that many people that walk onto a lot with the intention of purchasing a car they hate.

Ok my european bias (or snobbery lol) is going to be showing with this statement, but you can generally tell which decade a car is built in with how it is bolted together most 80's cars feel like 80's cars for example. When I emigrated to the sates in the late 90's USA cars felt like they where a decade behind what I was used to, the reason they where cheap compared to back home was because they where cheaply made. With all the foreign competition and owners becoming far more demanding the quality has improved sure there is still bean counting :( but overall it is features that go missing.

Every time I have thought about an EV being in CA you tend to think tesla and everytime I have gone and sat in one, I can't shake the same feeling that build quality makes me feel like I have time traveled back to the late 80's :( that has been the same for S,X & 3.

Tesla may well understand tech and software but being able to accelerate fast isn't ground breaking it is the little details that are what take the time and on that front tesla have a very long way to go, sure the last 3's are better built than the first but every manufacture makes tweaks and changes over a models life span, but being screwed together correctly shouldn't be one of them.

While it is all early adopters people are very forgiving but once you go mainstream you get all the critics that expect far better. The mach-e is certainly going to pick up a lot of those forgiving early adopters but it is also going to pick up a lot seasons ford owners that are going to be critical.

I love the Model Y (in theory) And the Mach E as well (obviously).

However I pulled up next to a Model Y yesterday and the panel gaps and door misalignment was pretty noticeable. That's just something you very rarely have to worry about in a more traditional manufacturer.

I hope that by next spring when the base Model Y comes out and production is humming along, that those issues will be less and less. Otherwise my wife will have to look at another EV.

I think my only concern with the Mach E is the technology/sync. I hope Ford gets it right.

There is already a Model Y thread going on the current fit and finish issues Tesla is experiencing. We don't really need another. Let's not turn this into a 'Bash the other EV maker Forum'.

The title of this forum is "Mach E vs the Competition" I didn't start this thread to bash Tesla or the Model Y - it is just another news item that I think is legitimate. I give Tesla huge props for starting the EV car revolution. I truly believe we would have nothing like the Mach E without Tesla. That being said, they have a LOT to learn yet on quality and build, but I expect them to catch up. If you watch any of the "Munro Live" videos of the Model Y teardown (I've watched them all) you can see that they have already learned a lot from the Model 3 and are advancing. They were an idea company first, and decided to try and build a car around it. Ford is a car company first, and they now have the push to make cars built on the platform of great ideas. Team Edison is like a little bit of Tesla juice inside of Ford.
