Their finance team is also approving expenditures knowing there's a steady stream of cash from the credits. If those credits weren't there, some of those expenditures wouldn't be on the books. People look at the numbers and are quick to say that Tesla wouldn't be profitable, but take away those credits and the expenditures would be lower. My company does the same thing, it's nothing unique.
Ummm, OK?

We're not talking about donuts in the breakroom, though. Those expenditures presumably strengthen their market position and maximize potential future profits. Not only does YOUR company do the same thing, literally every single company in a capitalistic economic system does this.

But anyway my reply was in response to a poster drawing conclusions about individual model profit margins based on quarterly earnings reports, which can't be done with accuracy without a ton of additional information.

I’ll believe this when I see it. HIGHLY doubt it’ll happen in North America anytime soon.
Yup. He speaks in vague generalities. When this actually happens is another story.

If you chose a drab, dumpy Model Y over a sexy MME in part because of exclusive access to the Superchager network, that’s a downside for you, and ultimately for Tesla. But the writing is on the wall. Tesla has to adapt.
I think some people are choosing them because you can actually get them, the MME at least for people ordering right now is essentially vaporware. Looking at 5-6+ months and most likely a 2022 model year. Ford could at least publish colors and options for the 2022 so the people ordering now know what they might get.

Really need some more color choices too, not to have a blue and some other colors seems like a big omission. There's like 3 shades of gray

I wish I could get away with speaking as vaguely and choppy as he does. He’s clearly a smart man who has changed the industry but fuck, his lying and hypothesizing is annoying.

Yup. That's the whole reason I'm here. I had a reservation for the new Roadster but I seriously doubt that is ever happening. But, I'm thrilled to be getting back into a Mustang now that there is finally an EV version!

With the new US administration talking about spending billions on charging infrastructure, I'm assuming there is a clause in there about needing to have an open network?
Muskie wants to get someone else to pay for the Tesla expansion.

You will be able to rent an adapter from Elon for only $49.99 per month I imagine ?
If Elon were manufacturing gas cars, his gas pumps would have been built with a triangular snout.
Those who don't appreciate a beautiful triangular shape would pay a small $99.99 fee to use an adapter ???

Since the cables at super chargers are so short, I wonder how they would even reach the mach e charge port since it's not on the same side as tesla vehicles
The charge port is on the left rear of my Tesla.
The charge port is on the left front of my Mach-E.
I doubt if it would reach if you back in like a Tesla does.
However if you front in it would probably reach.
I'm not going to do a 20 mile round trip to test it.

I guess I don’t understand why we don’t, as a society, just make the decision to do the right thing and invest in the infrastructure ourselves (politicians that will actually lead for people) not relying on corporations or single individuals (eg Musk) to decide how we plan our future on this planet.
The same with clean energy. We need nuclear, wind and solar to take off and we can’t rely on re-regulating the markets to ensure that corporations or individuals make bets in technology in order to make tons of money. Fair compensation for the future of the planet and young generation. It’s the ONE thing we can’t screw up. Money and markets are all fungible but the planet? Not so much. The planet will be fine btw, it’s just a matter of whether or not we want to stick around on this blue rock.
Yes, corporations can screw up royally, when they do that they go out of business, unless bailed out by the government. The problem with government interfering with the market, they screw up with almost 100% certainty, and instead of going out of business they throw ten times more money to the same pit and keep it going forever.

I also expect that starting by 2023 all new NA Teslas will have a CCS port. So what eventually happens to owners without the CCS ports when Tesla connections start drying up? They’ll have to use a CCS to Tesla adapter. That’s irony.
I think you are correct. And the reason can be even more simple. The 350kW 800V charging stations will become standard over the next decade, it's just a necessity to support those millions of EVs they expect to be produced, you have to cut the charging time to accommodate them all. Current Tesla charging infrastructure is a dead end. So I expect they will introduce 350kW CCS chargers and 800V car battery.

It won't reach the MME port.
It's barely long enough to reach the Tesla port on the left rear (sorry, I don't have any photos of the angle).

Even if you strategically park and angle the MME, it won't be able to reach the MME port due to the angle the cable and connector handle would be positioned. It's short by roughly 32 inches. Only way a MME could charge is pulling forward and using the charger the next parking spot over, essentially taking two spots. You can see how short the cable is in the image below.

EA has three or four partners each with varying degrees of competence.
That's the nicest way to say it :)

last quarter all the profits were from govt grants and Bitcoin
No, they were not grants but payments from FCA and other companies buying CO2 credits because of government legislation to reduce greenhouse gases through severe financial penalties. There is a very big difference: taxpayers are not paying Tesla to build EV's but rather other manufacturers are paying Tesla due to a lack of building their own EV's. FCA, VW, Ford, and every other manufacturer have the choice of paying big fines, big fees, or building EV's. Note that the government strategy is working because ALL of those manufacturers are now scrambling to have EV's on the market instead of gas/diesel powered pollution machines.

Dug into my archives of photos and found one over a year ago. Based upon this angle, it might reach the middle of the MME hood.

The chargers are positioned off center to minimize the cable length and just long enough to reach the Tesla charge point. It also messes people up painting the parking lines, which have the charger unit centered between the spots instead of staggered to a side as shown below.

This is such a ridiculous comment I don't even know where to begin. The TSLA folks have no option its either the y or the 3 or bust. By this nonsense the S & X are vaporware as well right.

I know you have to boost Elon's stock options but really this your best shot...[/QUOTE]
