Because of the difference over time in $$$ in your wallet. Why wouldn't you always use Plug 'n Charge when available on given network? (EA, EVgo, Tesla(now). etc.) Like the name implies......Plug in, endpoints handshake, charging commences, transaction settlement if required goes to a predefined credit card. Easy Peasy, as they say.
If you subscribe to the membership ($13/m) you get the Tesla rate. So if you DCFC at least 81kwh/month the subscription makes a difference. While having lunch with a co-worker today, we talked about Tesla SC as he has a TM3.
He showed me his rates if he were to charge today and his rate was about $0.20 LESS than my rate - both of us using the Tesla app.
So even though I may pay $0.63/kWh, my co-worker's Tesla will be at $0.45/kWh.
Guess if I really needed a charge, I'd go to Tesla....
This is Ford/Tesla rate:![]()
That's also at Peak time, off peak can be as low as $0.47/kwh ($0.32/kwh if you're a member)0.63 is a good rate. Slightly higher then EA, but still a very reasonable price for availability and reliability
They haven't for regular J1772 connectors. BMW's design is pretty clever, it has a little pin that stops the release from moving up.He has been an unpaid and unofficial ambassador for Ford EV's and extremely helpful here for years, so yes he was asked to be one of the early testers for the adapter. A well deserved opportunity IMHO.
They'll figure something out.
You knew there'd be a catch, right? I had no doubts that we would pay higher rates. Elon has many flaws but squeezing money out of people is one of his gifts. As @Rt1AWD said it's a reasonable upcharge for reliability and availability. While having lunch with a co-worker today, we talked about Tesla SC as he has a TM3.

yup
I don't even consider it a catch. It was absolutely expected otherwise what's in it for Tesla. I just hoped he wouldn't go too far with price differenceYou knew there'd be a catch, right?
Guess it's not too bad...
Let's just hope he doesn't think like a drug dealer and really jack up the price after we're hooked ?I just hoped he wouldn't go too far with price difference
That would have a bit of an antitrust issue smell. I don't think he is looking forward to go there. ?Let's just hope he doesn't think like a drug dealer and really jack up the price after we're hooked ?
1) EA Pass+ is 25% cheaper. Why wouldn't you always use Plug 'n Charge when available on given network? Very location specific. And EA with Pass+ never exceeds 48 cents that I have seen. Most EA stations aren't 64 cents before Pass+ discount.0.63 is a good rate. Slightly higher then EA, but still a very reasonable price for availability and reliability
That's a discounted price. I'm trying to compare apples to apples1) EA Pass+ is 25% cheaper.
Too much hassle and mental efforts to think about those microscopic savings2) Ford is not an EV charging provider, so you get at best 2% back on a credit card. Costco Visa gives 4% for EV charging, at EA, EVgo, etc. So now 26.5% cheaper than Plug and Charge.
That is what I said: slightly higher2) Ford is not an EV charging

I thought Tesla offers membership discounts tooThree 20 to 80% charges. .6 x 91 x 3 = 164kWh.
164 x .64 = $104.96.
With Pass+, cost is $104.96 x .75 = $78.72 + $7 = $85.72, savings of $19.24.
A BONUS is using the right credit card with EA and saving another 2% or $1.57 for no work.
Did you get a chance to test? Is the manual correct?I’ll test it tomorrow.
