Maybe not for murders, rapists and kidnappers. But these are enablers of copper thieves we're talking about. Let 'em fry!Government electrocuting citizens to death = good.

I suspect this might be somewhat off topic, but I can't help but to ask: What are they converting the cats into? Dogs?![]()
Their parents would be proud. Life is a bitch. Imagine if they could have looked into the future as a child only to see themselves peddling stolen coper wires they cut from home chargers.Transport Evolved recently reported that some thieves are going after outside home chargers. They had video of the crooks driving by and stopping quickly when they saw an EV being charged. They ran up, unplugged the car, quickly cut the cable and ran away. This even though the driveway was lighted with an camera.
One of the assumptions here is that the charge cables are being sold for copper... in some local instances it turned out to be anti-EV vandalism.
Oh you Sweet Summer Child…not new, and as with most things, being totally blown out of proportion...
That's how it works for Level 2 stations in Europe. BYO Cable. When I go to the campground, I bring my cable with me and plug it into the receptacle there to power my rig. I've always thought EVs should be like this instead of depending on the charging station to supply the cable. It would at least take damaged/missing cables out of the equation.
Copper is a precious metal. Value can change daily. There are thieves that store it waiting for scrap price to go up. Scrap price does not usually change daily.Does anyone know what the copper in a charging cable is worth? I know people don’t need it to be $500 to be worth stealing but what are we talking about?
$5? $50?
Right. But the price seems to have varied between $2/lb and $6/lb over the last 5-10 years.Copper is a precious metal. Value can change daily. There are thieves that store it waiting for scrap price to go up. Scrap price does not usually change daily.
Puddle of water around car with cables from HVB dangling ?One town over from me, they've been hit with some home burglaries, word is out they've set up "bait houses" (it's a town with a lot of empty houses because it's often a third or fourth home). I often go running through there because its peaceful, and dang is sure looks like 80% of the houses are empty.
I'm not sure a "bait ev station" would be a thing....
The scrap yard near me requires a photo ID (and copies it) before they will purchase anything. Catalytic converters and other stealable stuff requires a state license to sell to them.Simply require and record photo ID from each seller, as a start. If they had an electric chair the thieves would’ve stolen the wiring anyhow.
I wouldn't know how much copper. Cords usually fine strand for flexibility. Making it worth even less.Right. But the price seems to have varied between $2/lb and $6/lb over the last 5-10 years.
How much copper is in a a cable like EVgo or EA use? Doesn’t seem like it could be worth too much.
