Third Key Fob

Hi. I have 3 key Fobs, the third of which I programmed myself. Now I’d like to purchase a new Fob with the Frunk button. Here's my question. Can I delete the third Fob and program the new one by myself or is this something only the dealer can do?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can have FOUR active fobs on the car.

As for deleting, it requires the dealer or a locksmith.

Correct.

And just FYI - prices for the dealer to program/delete keys are all over the place. Some people have paid as much as $200+ to program a single key. I paid all of $70 to have all my keys deleted and two programmed. Call around to your local dealers if you need to do this.

You can do it yourself. My ‘21 had only 1 fob. I bought two more (back when they were easier to get and a LOT cheaper). Then Ford offered an additional fob for those cars that only came with one. This meant I had 4 fobs. I had just bought the ‘23 (which came with two fobs) so I told the dealer not to program the additional fob … but they did it anyway (they insisted it was part of the program and that they _had_ to program it). This meant I had four working fobs for my ‘21.

SO… I repgrogrammed that fob for my ‘23 by myself. The biggest problem I had was finding instructions that actually worked, but I did eventually find them and then it was no problem.

I lost #2 fob replaced it with ford programmed etc. added AirTags on both then lo and behold I found the third. All three have AirTags ?

Can one of you post where you bought your fob and any links to the instructions you found to program it yourself. Why Ford didnt include a frunk button on either of my 23 fobs escapes me.

Note that the "within 10 seconds" instruction is really "as soon as you can physically remove the current key and insert the next." ??

If you follow those instructions, I found a few things a little confusing. First, never start the car with the break depressed (basically you are just starting accessory mode).

Also, after the second fob cycles through, you will see the factory unlock code appear on the screen. This lets you know you are doing it correctly (at least through step #7).

For step #9 when you push the start key, the car will not turn on or go into accessory mode (in contrast to steps #3 and #7). Just leave the new fob in the slot and wait 5 seconds and the "Key Programming Success" (or something like that) message will appear. I kept pushing the start button a second time in step #9 thinking I need to see the car turn on in accessory mode. I would get the "Key Programming Fail" message every time.

I just programmed my 4th key fob with a frunk button to my 23 Mach-E. I then took the key fob I didn't want for the Mach-E and programmed it to my F-150 Lightning. The key fob now works for the lightning and not for the Mach-E.

Yes. BUT, it is still in the Mach-E memory, using up a slot.

You can program a fob to lock and unlock doors on multiple vehicles, but only start one vehicle.

There must be a part that is programmed into the key fob because the key fob I programmed to my lightning no longer works on the Mach-E. The MyKey menu of the Mach-e is showing 5 administration keys now.
