So this actually has nothing at all to do with the age of the device or what OS it is running or anything like that. It's because the software engineers that are working on the Ford app have literally written code that detects the current version of the Ford app on the device, then pings that value to their server, then if it is deemed "old enough", the server will respond will a value that tells the client (your phone) that an update is required. It's not an OS thing whatsoever. If you don't update the Ford app for e.g. 3-6 months, you will see this screen, doesn't matter if you have a new iPhone 17 Pro XL or a 2013 flip phone. The reason they implement this logic is so that they don't have unhappy customers that run into bugs that they've fixed 4 years ago but you haven't updated your app yet to receive the fix.

You don't have to believe me but I am a software engineer and have personally written this exact code logic in my career (not saying that I agree with it). Here's another anecdote, I saw this same screen yesterday on my 2.5 year old iPhone 15 that is on the lastest iOS version, and was forced to update, and I indeed had not updated the Ford app in quite a while.

Ok, but OP also said that he COULDN'T update to the current version of the Ford app because it won't work on his OS. THAT'S why we're ragging on him for having an ancient phone and expecting the latest apps to still work on it.
