"This Ford mobile app is not longer supported"

Newest version reports that it won't install on my perfectly good, great-performing phone?

Meanwhile, the Tesla app still runs fine.

WTF have they done?

My guess is that the Ford app doesn't support your phone's OS anymore. Not sure which phone you have. But this is commonly seen in older phones. Another way to force you to upgrade your phone. Gotcha love technology.

Planned Obsolescence is another cancer. But WTF has Ford done to the app that suddenly makes it incompatible with a perfectly fine phone? (When the competitor's Tesla app still works great?)

Whether Elmo's app works or not has zero relevance.

What phone are you using?

Of course comparing similar apps is relevant. If one works and the other doesn't, then what is wrong with the broken app?

Your last security patch was 6 years ago. The newest Android OS is 16. That explains why the app doesn't work. Your OS isn't supported

Planned Obsolescence cancer, as expected. I have PCs, laptops, appliances, and a dog all over 6 years old. They all work fine. Just weak engineering from Ford.

That’s a Samsung Galaxy S8. A phone that is coming up on 10 years since first release.

The OS is simply too old and not secure anymore. You’ll find many more apps will become not compatible if they haven’t already.

I’m surprised you haven’t run into problems before now. Most banking apps require at least Android 10 these days if not Android 11.

Tesla app working is irrelevant. You can either get a new car or a new phone 🤷🏻‍♂️. Even a $200 budget Samsung A17 will outperform your old phone and last you many more years of Android updates to come.

Phones are computers... you can keep a computer for 6 years but not recommended because of security if not performance. If you have not noticed from a cyber security perspective there is a war going on out there.

trust me companies don't want to spend money they don't have to and most of them are updating their computers every 3 to 5 years.

Companies cannot be expected to engineer an app for an OS that was released in 2018. There just aren’t enough people running that version to justify the cost. Some apps do work, but that’s because their apps don’t require certain features provided by the newer OSes. Android 9 was the oldest to be supported until this version. You’ll need to load an older version and disable updates to it. Otherwise, you’ll need a phone built in the last few years.

Oh get off it. You’re a microscopic portion of the user population on a ridiculously old OS acting annoyingly entitled.

It’s not because they want to force you to use their AI. It’s not because they used AI to develop the app. It’s not because Google or Samsung are giving them kickbacks to force you to update. Or any other conspiracy theory.

Supporting users like you on an OS that old has a real cost. And there are likely very very very few of you. They know the numbers. You’re extremely expensive to support relative to everyone else.

It might even be a flat out technical issue with what Android 9 supports in terms of modern security and protocols.

You *could* have posted a thread saying it was over, you were surprised it lasted so long (tons of companies don’t give 2 years), wishing ford would fix it.

Nope. You came in hostile and accusatory

“Planned obsolescence” is a lie about 99% of the time. There are real reasons for this stuff. Often very good reasons. The fact you don’t know them doesn’t make everything magically mustache-twirlingly evil.

You are indeed well versed, you should just restore a backup of your phone that was done before the app update...

I'm not concerned that the new app won't download to old phones. I am concerned that they deliberately disable old versions of the app that presumably worked ok for their original purpose.
