Car is primarily the Wife’s Ride. So she had more time behind the wheel to learn the car….

she said last month that the car has been making noises while turning at a stop sign or pulling out of a parking spot. I never heard such a thing before so I dismissed it. The car just had its 10K service and the Dealership “The Works inspection”.. no issues found.

Right now, we are out doing last minute shopping for Christmas,,, she states that two days ago that it made a very loud thumping when leaving work. I grilled her on speed, how sharp was she turning, etc..

just dropped her off at the grocery store and decided to go into the back lot to see if I can test & heat hear it.

sure enough! I can hear it With the radio off.

turning to the left is more pronounced and deeper sounding. To the right is not as loud but sounds like the clicking/thumping noise is more rapid.
Anybody else experienced this?

I have to call to schedule the glass/roof inspections for the recall… I’ll add this to that call to the dealership. I’m sure they will ask:
1. So when did this start?
2. Why didn’t you mention it during the 10k service since it was here for three days?

Currently at 10,421 miles.

Hi James. Could you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this on my end.

You have the same thing a lot of us have. See the thread @methorian gave you above (the thread is somewhat misnamed because it isn't a "clunk" sound - it's a clicking or knocking sound as you describe, manifesting on sharp turns). Ford appears to be aware of the problem and is recommending replacement of the CV joints. You'll need to schedule an appointment with the service center. Some service centers might be replacing the entire half-shaft assemblies (the CV joints are located on the ends of the half-shafts), and some might be just replacing the cv joints themselves - not sure. My appointment is this Thursday.

I wanted to follow up with a real "Thank You" instead of only the thumbs up I gave after you replied.

With the Holiday and family 'goings ons'... I couldn't get my thumbs active enough on the iPhone..

Thanks again, this thread is indeed what is going on with our FE. I just feel so bad that I brushed the wife off for so long about it.

I'll never hear the end of it now...

Thanks for the reinforcement on the thread. Truly helpful.

September Build 2021 GTPE. making loud noise turning left and right tightly while decelerating less than 20 mph. Lightly driving at ~15mph can here a low thump thump thump while turning modestly.

Anyone know if the half shafts being produced currently are a new revision? I've got less than 2800 miles on her and can't believe such a component is showing signs of failure already!

Sorry to hear this. I myself am trying like hell to get the local dealership to even engage on the problem. They were trying to combine it with the Glass recall work that they say can’t be done until April… because I reported the issue to them after the 10K mile service … which I now feel did not do any of the basic inspections….
They finally gave me an appointment date of Feb 28th to take a look at…. But nobody can tell me if we should stop driving the car. I’m worried we will end up on the wrong side of Ford Warranty

So, I took RUBY into the dealership on Monday for the appointment that was scheduled in December... to have the Glass Recalls & this expected drive / half shaft issue looked at.

Short story:
They were not prepared with a Glass Company to inspect the windshield nor pano... so that didn't happen.

They had not read up on the trouble ticket for the reported issue nor the case open with Ford Corp... They origianlly said "We don't hear or notice anything like you describe. We do hear something coming from the rear when parked and turning the wheels..." I'll leave that to another day.

So I asked them to drive me around the parking lot to prove it's not happening.... Yep it happened 7 out of 10 times and always loudest turning to the left; and the tech could actually feel it in the floor.

He went behind the curtain to check the "Hot line"... came back to report to his bosses that there are a few mentions of something similar... and they would need Ford Engineering / Corp to get in touch and tell them how to move foward....

They released the car back to me and said "we will let you know when we hear something."

We have put over 3,000 miles on the car since reporting the issue to the Dealership and Ford. I hope we are not making the situation worse or putting ourselves at risk of accident...

Ruby has been at the dealership for over a month... yet another car payment made and no resolution. I go by the dealership once a week for an update. They never reach out to me.

Last week, after standing in the service office for 45 min,,, they claimed yet again, that all the Software updates have been completed and that the drive work completed... Yet before I entered the Service Office, I drove to the back lot, started the car with PAAK and sat inside. The Battery life has slowly dropped since they took posession.. never been plugged in and none of the software shows any updates. Same with Widget and PAAK reporting.

They said they are still waiting on the "Body Shop" to schedule the Glass Recall... That was part of the original appointment on Feb 28th 2022......

They could not tell me if BOTH Sides of the front drive had been replaced... I'm getting angry.. .but the WIFE is ready to start Lemon Law proceedings and go into the Dealership and make an ugly scene...

I keep trying to give the Dealership the chance. We love(d) RUBY... but after almost two months without it.. and two car payments for it... it's not looking good.
