Thank you all for the quick responses and information. I really appreciate hearing your experiences and timelines in the process. Attached is the car I ordered I don't think there is anything special about it however maybe it's the floor mats that are holding it up ?‍♂

I ordered on 12/19/2021 and my vehicle is scheduled for production this week. It took about 5 or 6 weeks before I received any communication from Ford after the initial confirmation. My vehicle seems to be moving along faster than what many others are experiencing. I ordered a premium extended battery RWD. I do live in an EV friendly state (Oregon) and some believe those states get higher priority, but I don't know if that is true. I suspect it's based more on the specific model and options you choose. You should be able to log into your account on the Ford website and confirm that Ford has accepted the order from dealership. If so, then you just have to keep waiting.
I, too, ordered a Premium/ext battery/RWD/Rapid-Red on 12/19/2021 as well. I see from the footer in your message that you have production scheduled For 3/14/22. Sadly I received an order acknowledgement and a “watch these videos” emails from Ford initially, but then crickets.

Glad you are in production but see you also were out twisting-in-the-wind waiting as I have been. I’ve also had little communication* and no idea on how Ford’s “ramp up to 2023” is going for the company (Ford’s stated they are ramping production to be able to produce 200,000 units in 2023. That would indicate that each month should see more being made and therefore my wait would be slightly less maybe?).

—————————————————-

*Ford is really missing out on building a long-term relationship with new customers for EVs. How? There are SO many opportunities for Ford to “keep in touch” as we wait and wait and wait.

They could do an email newsletter with stories about road trips, current owner experiences, what’s happening with Ford’s EV push overall, etc. I know that if *I* got an email newsletter once per week, for example, I’d be A LOT less bothered with the waiting. If there is anyone from Ford lurking here, please pass this on to EV leadership.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think Ford's CEO (who's still relatively new to the job) is doing some good things at Ford. Ford hired away a top executive from Apple a while back and I'm hopeful they will significantly improve the online ordering process. I believe they are aware they are losing significant opportunity in area.

Just a correction, those trims aren't discontinued, they're just "sold out." Granted things may change, but when the 2023 orders come up it's expected we'll see a return of the ability to order Premium and California Route 1 trims. Someone on here reported their dealer expected those trims to become available to order again as soon as this summer, but who knows...
I dunno. I really hope I'm wrong. But even if the option of ordering a Premium or a R1 becomes available again next week, I would advise against ordering anything but a GT for a while, if you need your car sooner than later. I suspect those other trims are "sold out" because they just aren't worth building. Seriously. What ultra-scarce parts does my R1 order have that aren't also used in the GT trim? 18 inch wheel covers? Cheap sound system? Maybe... I suspect when the demand for 60K+ cars starts to cool off, they'll mysteriously be able to build a whole bunch of the 50k+ cars again. A great way to make me look foolish, Ford, would be to build some of those ordered R1s and Premiums. Go ahead. I dare ya!

Or maybe it's the glass roof. It'd be interesting to see whether most of those GTs they can't wait to build have metal roofs, which would also be a way to make me look foolish. That would certainly explain their willingness to build Selects...

I suppose there's no scarcity of ways to make me look foolish, push comes to shove. But my favorite, by far, would be to just schedule a build date for my car already.

It's unclear if it's components or the ways the cars are scheduled. Someone on this forum posted something about how the vehicles with glass roofs take some extra steps to build, so in the production line there was something like... two cars could be built between every one with the roof? I have no personal insight into how the factories and production lines are run (beyond what you see in promotional photos) but it makes sense that there might be a combination of time and part constraints. They determined that they would not be able to build further Mach-E's in those trims for the rest of the year so they cut them off, which I suppose is nicer than building up a two-year waitlist.

I order a premium RRD W/Ext battery on 8-31. I'd caution all of you with current build dates. It could take awhile to take delivery even after the build date. I was scheduled in the 1/31 build week. I got confirmation it was built but is now waiting for chips. It's still showing in production and with a build date of 1/31 on Fords site. That hasn't changed for months. That's 1 and 1/2 months ago and still waiting. My dealer says his system is showing expected delivery end of June. In reading some of these feeds with the same build week it looks like some are being shipped out. It looks like it takes around 5 weeks from shipping to actual delivery. If I would get confirmation tomorrow that mine is being shipped it would still be towards the end of April before I'd take delivery. That's almost 3 months after my build date. That would 5 months to get it built and another 3 months to actually get delivery, total of 8 months.

r being shipped.

I can understand how frustrating it is especially since there is basically no communication from Ford it makes it even harder. You see other people who ordered later getting production dates and cars built and you don’t know why yours isn’t. Then we all speculate the whys.
I think allocation is the magic ingredient that no one knows or completely understands. I have no insight on this. My brain hurts trying to figure out how they figure it out and make this formula happen. I’m sure the profit of the car has some effect on why some cars get picked and others don‘t.
I think the biggest factor in the delays isn’t that Ford is scheduling all the GTs first it’s that they are having parts issues. I was talking to a product manager for a major RV manufacturer today and even though the RV industry seems to be recovering from some supply chain issues they are still struggling. Everything from window blinds to switches to wood and metal. I have a customer waiting almost 2 years for a $500k Motorhome that was supposed to be built in a year (typically 3 months) and is at the factory waiting for a window, some cabinet doors, a shower fixture and a tank. I have multiple customers waiting for months or longer for a stove, a drivers seat, or a tank switch. I realize it’s a different product and industry, but supply chain issues and lack of components are a huge factor. I forget sometimes because grocery shelves are mostly stocked and Amazon still can get me almost anything in 2 days.
I can only imagine on a scale like Ford what they are struggling with. There’s news stories out that sales of the MME are down this year. Anyone on this forum knows it’s not due to lack of interest.
I think Ford should figure out how to communicate better. I also think that’s a consumer confidence PR nightmare. Do we all really want to know how the sausage is made or not made at this point? Do I want to get an email list of all the parts and components that Ford can’t get and doesn’t know when it will get them? Do I want to know that they are potentially changing suppliers for components from one car to the next because they are just trying to get cars built? Or that they are maybe robbing parts off one car to finish another? I genuinely don’t know if this is happening. I also don’t want to know.
I also think with the global issues it may get worse before it gets better. The war in Ukraine isn’t going to help. China is shutting down provinces again due to Covid. At this point I’m starting to think my order will be a 2023. I ordered a premium AWD SR on 10/19/21 and other than a confirmation haven’t heard squat - full disclosure I did buy one off a lot in my impatience.
I wish you all the patience I didn’t have and I hope you get a build date soon along with everyone else who has waited longer than expected.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for talking me down from the ledge, folks!
