Today's the last day to order a 2022 MME?

What kind of scam is this? I have a voicemail and email from a dealer (not the one I ordered through) urging me to complete my 2022 order because Ford is closing its order banks today, nationwide. That's not right. Is it?

From the voicemail: "So if you do not order one today you will no longer be able to get one for 2022, which you would have to wait until 2023 to get one."

From the email: "We are reaching out because we see that you have shown interest at one point in the Ford Mustang Mach-E. We wanted to give a friendly reminder that Ford will be closing the order bank for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E today and it will no longer be possible to order one at any dealership until further notice.
This may be you last chance to get the 2022 Mustang Mach-E! If your still interested give us a call and we can help you get your order placed before time is up!"

When you have more orders than manufacturing slots available for the balance of the year you have to stop taking orders. My guess is there will be a big rush of orders that Ford will be unable to meet even in the best of times. If chip shortages continue to pop up the number that can be built will drop.

Seems like they're trying to avoid the model year stretching into the next year like they had for the 2021. Clearly with current supply issues there's not enough certainty to keep accepting 2022 orders. They're probably being conservative on that.

This seems like a good idea in my opinion. Maybe they have enough Mach-E orders for all of 2022 already (like the F150).

No point in taking more orders when you're never going to be making/selling that many and it just upsets customers.

Things seem so backed up already.

I placed my order two days ago and had the dealership call me today to have me send a picture of my license and my build sheet in order to convert my "reservation" into an actual order. They said today was the last day to do so for a 22.

I believe it has to be to avoid the bad optics of delivering 2022's in 2023. My 2021 won't be delivered until March 2022. Delivering a 2023 in late 2022 is fine, but the other way around looks bad.
