Hi everyone,

I would like to take a road trip with my wife this summer. We would start where we live in northern New Jersey like an area of the country to see. For this trip, we would start in fort Lee, New Jersey and route through Tennessee all the way to Kansas City. Ideally we would spend 4 hours driving each day and the rest of the day sightseeing.

Does anybody know of an app or website to help plan road trips, highlighting local culture, restaurants and events?

We have enough freedom to pick our travel dates. I would like the round-trip to laugh less than 2 weeks.

I have only done a couple of road trips and found Plugshare and A Better Route Planner (ABRP) to be very good resources. If you figure out where you want to stay overnight on the trip then Plugshare has a filter for "Lodging" that will help you find a hotel that has chargers. Setting out each morning with 90-100% charge helps a lot on the planned route. I used ABRP to plan our stops between the towns where I wanted to stay. I would also check these stops on Plugshare which would show if there were any problems with the site. It also helps others if you do a check in and report your experience with these stops on plugshare even if charging was successful.

I never plan on hotel charging, just don't do that. If it works out consider it a happy accident.

Check out these ideas:

https://guidealong.com/tour-list/?tour-search=&tax-tour-destination[]=eastern-us

We really like GuideAlong. It's an app, and you buy the individual tours, or a bundle of tours, which you download to your phone. Then, when you drive, you get the information, such as local history, upcoming sights, geological information, a few dad jokes, etc. Typically there are 100 to 300 voice points, as you drive past it plays them.

I always plan on hotel charging. I adore it. If it doesn't work out, I get angry. But waking up at 100% is so sweet...
I recommend going in between these two extremes. I look for hotel charging but only if there is a DCFC nearby as a backup. If there isn't hotel charging in the right place or the hotels with charging are overpriced, just make the DCFC stop -- preferably during breakfast.
