Trouble closing hood. During my test drive, parked in my driveway, I peeked under the hood. It wouldn’t close! Called the dealer; a few minutes later, he texted me a video of him and colleague needed to really put some muscle behind throwing the hood down on a MME at the dealership to get it to close. I mimicked that, and it did close, but man! Shouldn't need to muscle it like that. Anyone else have that experience?

Yep it definitely takes some slamming. The manual recommends letting it go from 10-14 inches.

I experienced the same thing with the hood of my FE tonight. After opening and trying to close it rather gently like with past cars and as recommended in the owners manual, I finally had to give it a hard push down and that did the trick. I don’t like how it feels like you’re damaging it by having to push it down so hard so I guess there goes using the frunk space regularly for groceries, etc I suppose.

This will be mainly due to the watertight seal...
Agreed. At one of the Mach E Tour events I learned the initial reason the drain was installed was to allow the air to escape. Once there as a solution to one problem, they moved it to the bottom and it became a feature.

If you close the hood and it doesn’t go all the way, you can give it another hard push and it will latch the rest of the way.

So I had the same trouble closing my frunk initially, however I tried putting the pressure right smack in the middle instead of the sides of the latch and it closes easily that way. I was telling my son who owns a Tesla and before I finished, he said to just push down in the middle —and then called me a frunk newbie.

I was told it is due to the fact that it’s not made of metal but a composite material so it’s not heavy like a metal hood (or an alloy that isn’t as heavy). I had trouble too trying to close it by just letting it drop 10-14 inches like I do most hoods. Don’t know if it’s that or seal around the bowl of frunk.

For mine, it seems pretty clearly that the catch mechanism is not “giving” enough for the hood’s bar that goes into the catch to actually move the mechanism to let it in. It’s that single point of contact (evidenced by visible abrasion on that little bar’s black paint) that is the issue.

As with all Fords, just drop it from 12-18". I know this is hard to get used to. I believe its due to the seals.

OP here. Here’s the video my dealer sent me when I called from home on my test drive about the problem. I got mine to close replicating this move. Note that there’s no pushing on the hood once it’s in contact with the latch. It’s more like giving it a good shove, but releasing before it lands.

That looks like it will work and is NOT the traditional way I close Ford hoods (let them drop 10-14 inches). He is actually "slamming" the hood down from about 14 - 18 inches which when I think about it, was the way the salesman at the dealership closed the frunk hood. He's the one who told me it was a composite (which apparently it is not). I'll practice doing that if I ever get my car.

Yeah, but this cannot be acceptable, amiright?
