After getting my windows tinted (rear sides and back) I can't see out the back window using the rear-view mirror after a minute or two. Initially it is OK but the it gets darker to the point of being useless. Since it is not dark to start with there must be something that causes/initiates the auto-dimminHELP!

I know the solution but you won't be happy with that one...if you want to manipulate the sensor I think that will only be possible via software and you will be blinded often in the winter...

If you adjust your mirror after it goes dark it doesn't get better?

By adjusting the mirror are you talking about rotating it up or down similarly to the old "flip switch" ?

No I have not tried that, yet.

Is the rear view mirror auto dimming? How do you know? Frankly I cant tell. And I see no wires coming out of the rear of the mirror. Stumped.

From the manual:

The auto-dimming feature is active any time the ignition is ON. The interior auto-dimming mirror uses 2 integral photoelectric sensors to detect exterior lighting conditions. When the forward facing sensor detects daytime conditions, the rearward facing sensor is inactive and the mirror glass stays in a high reflectance mode. When the forward facing sensor detects nighttime conditions, the rearward facing sensor is active. When bright lights (glare) are detected by the rearward facing sensor, the mirror glass is electronically darkened. To provide increased visibility when backing up, the interior rear view mirror automatically returns to a high reflectance mode any time reverse gear is selected, regardless of exterior lighting conditions.

so.. if you didn’t mess with the forward view of the sensors… the mirror should be fine.

Yes. It is. That's the issue. With tinted rear window the dimmed mirror makes it near impossible to see out the back window.

I too was hoping someone had discovered a solution for disabling this feature for those with darker tinted rear windows.

Agreed it dims too much. Can Forscan adjust sensitivity? Usually there is an off switch as well.

Add me to the list of those who need a solution to this.

The mirror dim feature is internal to the mirror so is not software controlled (other than being on/off by power), but the sensor is in the actual mirror (can be seen as a circular "difference" at the middle), so tinting, taping, or partially blocking the mirror sensor some way should "work".

It should also be very easy to disable it by unplugging the connector inside the plastic housing on the windscreen. The housing is just attached with clips and can be removed by hand by using slight force from the edges.

Anyone found a solution to this? At night my rear view mirror is practically black even though there is zero light behind me ;P

As @noway said you can pull the plastic housing down and disconnect the power to it. It's easy to do, my dashcam is powered by the mirror power cord.
