My SoCal dealer just called, encouraging me to confirm my reservation as an order because "the sooner you do that, the sooner you get your car." My reservation is for a premium AWD with a reservation number in the low 40Ks. I told him that I thought that priority was based on when you made the reservation, not when you confirm it.

"Oh no, they'll produce the cars in the order that they receive the actual orders."

Really? That sounds a little off to me, seems to dismiss those with the earliest enthusiasm for the car. In any event, when do you think I might receive it?

"Before the end of the year for sure."

Even though I'm reservation number forty thousand something?

"For sure. Ford has told us that's when all the deliveries will happen. Once they get going, they'll just be cranking them out."

---------

My current lease expires at the end of this year so I'd sure like to believe him, but from everything I've gathered here, he seems to be more than a little misinformed. I thanked him and told him I'd get back to him...

He's probably half right. The sooner you convert, the earlier your order gets into the queue. The production queue probably will then be sorted by the model (FE, then Premium, then others) and by reservation timestamp. If you convert in July, you will almost certainly get your Premium sooner than if you convert in December. However, if you convert in July, yours will most likely be produced after a Premium with a 4K reservation that was also converted in July.

There is probably a cutoff window ahead of when your "reservation" would normally be produced that you need to have your order in by. So they will produce them in the order that you reserved but if you haven't placed your order by the time that point comes up, you get bumped back (maybe to the back of the line). So you could probably convert an order in say September and still get it before someone that converted in July because your reservation was well ahead of theirs.

The big unknown is no one knows what that production window is.

Yes, I agree. So if I were you I would plan on extending your lease. I would think Jan 2021 delivery at the earliest.

"I told him that I thought that priority was based on when you made the reservation, not when you confirm it." -- YES.

"Oh no, they'll produce the cars in the order that they receive the actual orders." is half right. When production sequencing starts the schedulers will prioritize orders that have been received by reservation timestamp. Then once they start planning the sequence of the next batch they'll prioritize that next batch by timestamps, so on and so forth.

So, as new orders come in later they will go into the next available production run based on the trim level and will have their priority sequenced by reservation timestamp. Production will not wait until all reservations are converted. They will start working with the orders they have at the time the batch is sequenced. If you wait you'll still be prioritized by your reservation timestamp, but it will be in a later production run.

So, how many times have we repeated this on the Forum?

I was just sharing an exchange I had with my dealer, not trying to waste anyone's time by asking a repetitive question.

I appreciate your collective input.

NO, no it's not you. We get a lot of repeat questions here. We're just talking about making it easier for people to find answers to their questions. If people are asking the same questions multiple times then it's a failing on the availability of the data. What we need is a 'start here' Wikipedia type page for all things Mach-E for people to search and find answers.

I don't know. I thought it was my turn again. We need a FAQ section.... if you want to post a question start there first sort of thing.
Just some sticky threads would help I think.

Want to change Dealers?
Want to test drive a car?
Order sequencing?
It all seems to come up over and over again.

I've been on the forum for a while and have just been following along. The conventional wisdom has been "you get your Mach E in sequence of your reservation number". So, my reservation number was "10031401" and now that I've converted my reservation to an order, my ford account page shows my order number as the same "10031401". This lead me to believe I'd like get roughly the 31,401st Mach E produced.

However, my dealer just emailed me today to say that my Order number is "2221". So, maybe when my dealer converted my order, they were the 2,221 order to convert with Ford. Does this mean I'll get the 2,221st Mach E produced? Rhetorical question: Who knows? I guess we'll all find out eventually.

Based on everything Ford has said:

Yes, less reservation numbers not properly assigned, cancellations, and folks who convert much later than you (perhaps).

No.

Not enough apparently. ;)

I've been having this exact same conversation on the various Facebook groups with people and getting a lot of blowback from those who are convinced they can wait until December 2020 and still come out ahead on delivery compared to someone in the same trim level who converted in July. The idea that Ford, or anyone else, could actually run a business like that is seemingly lost on some.

Unfortunately people often see what they want/need to see, rather than what is really there. The more doggedly others try to shake their beliefs with logic and facts, the stronger they stick to their delusions.
